  • There is a high liklihood that you’re using an unstable plugin. As a test, turn off your filters and effects and try to export. If the plugin is found to the problem, the best bet is to contact the maker of that specific tool for and update.

[Reloaded] “Are there rules to make it look realistic?”

The most effective way to create an animation that holds true to its live counterpart are to study the mechanics of the live body. A car’s wheel turn at the exact point where the wheels meet the hub, often refered to as the wheel offset depth. But there are a lot of other points that you should review prior to trying to animate anything that has a reference in the real world.

November 25, 2006 at 3:56 pm in reply to: using copyrighted footage for showreel

[Cowart] “The reel is all about editing, so I wanted to use professional footage.”

Here’s the thing, if you’re applying for a “professional” editing possition, and you are so unconfident with the footage that you’ve worked with in the past, what questions will that leave the employer with? Dependent upon where and for whom you wish to work, there are vastly different considerations that you need to grasp prior to cutting up other peoples’ footage, especially that footage with not only limited personal creative perspective, but also with legal foresight as well. As a person who has hired (and dismissed) a lot of people over the years, I can confidently say that unless the editing is so tremendous that I either cry or feel moved to dance, I’d find issue with any application/reel that utilized footage that was not a part of the applicant’s own body of work.

[Cowart] “I know that I am not allowed to use this footage for anything but private use”

This might be a misunderstanding on your part, but if you’re thinking that recutting footage as part of a license to VIEW a production at home has been extended to you simply based upon your purchase of said material, you’d be absolutely mistaken. Bluntly, that silly screen at the beginning of every DVD and recorded-for-resale video is pretty explicit in the fact that you MAY NOT use the video for ANYTHING except viewing in the privacy of yur own home, which almost certainly negates the liklihood of your question with respect to legallity.

[Cowart] “The origin of the footage along with names of the copyright holders will be added of course”

I’m sure that this would help with your conscience, but the reality is that the rule is the rule is the rule. Your violation would create a very sticky situation that would be best left to other potential employees.

[Cowart] “would I be seriously violating copyrights?”

    Yes.

Good luck with the application, but I sincerely think that your due consideration of this should be further scrutinized before your make a mistake that gets you removed from the potential hire stack.

I suspected that this would be a job for the advanced render module, but I opted for the Mograph mod instead. I actually bought and paid for the finalRender product, but sold it shortly thereafter as it was oerkill for rotating logos.

Thanks so much for your help…

Truly, if you’re going o make flying titles and rotating 3D objects versus animation or in depth CAD-type modeling, the best book to have is simply the manual. Many of the more advanced features with your ideas in mind are spelled out in the first few paragraphs of each chapter.

If you use “the Google” to do a search, you can pull up hundreds of tutorials that should kick you off.

Is there anything that you DON’T know about C4D? Man, a walking manual like yourself should be working for Maxon. I was pretty unclear about the C4D lighting architecture, but if it reacts similar to actual physics, then I’ll find my way through. Thanks so much for your time.

Bluntly, they are very similar in nature, save for the fact that Max’s mechanical interpretations are slightly different from C4D’s. If you peruse the Cinema 4D manual table of contents and glossary, almost all of your translation questions will be answered immediately.

If I map the HDRI image to my environment, will it show motion in the geometry when a reflective object is moved with a camera accrss a plane?

For example, I’ve got a 2000 by 2000 by 2000 hollow cube acting as a “cyclorama” for a fictitious cleaning product shot. If I set a camera target on the product and have the product slide in to view from off screen and the camera simultaniously trucks around the product to the opposing side of the cyclorama, will the HDRI reflections appear to flow over and or around the product shot.

Also, is there such a thing as an “HDRI” video clip, or would heightening the contract and boosting the white-area be sufficient to give the impression of the environment having some life to it?

[matt stoltz] “you have to view website with IE or youwont be able to see them”

This being the case, could you grab a few screenshots for us to see? I can most likely give you some idea of what was used, but IE is a four letter word around here…
