June 22, 2009 at 9:47 pm in reply to: Black frame caps when converting frame rate in timelineThank you both for your replies. I have a few follow up questions:
1. If I do a conform (re-time) of the footage, from 23.98 to 25; or 25 to 23.98, what is the exact speed change I need to implement to the audio? I noticed that when doing a conform on Cinema Tool that the sound is not treated, and that the sound will need to be treated separate. I am afraid that I will be met with audio offsets / drifts down the line.
2. When doing a transcoding (where the media duration remains the same, not conform where the duration lengthens / shortens), I have been told that it is better to go from a lower frame rate to a higher one. This was because pulling out frames is destructive to the motion since information is being left out; but adding frames will be much less noticeable, if at all. How does this apply to conform. Should I go 23.98 – 25; or 25 – 23.98? I understand the speed change is minute, but through my test it is still noticeable. Is there a general standard to whether speeding up / slowing down is preferred?
3. In regards to the gaps – because I have multiple layers of audio, and sometimes the audio have dissolves b/w files, I noticed that sometimes sometimes there are gaps in the video, but not in the audio. Should I follow the duration of the video and adjust the audio accordingly?
Thank you again!

April 26, 2009 at 4:09 am in reply to: FCP control surface – does M-audio Project mix i/o work?Warren,
Thanks for the reply!
I looked at the specs for the Frontier Designs Alphatrack, and it looks like a very nifty little device. Can you give me any additional advice / comments about it?
I think we’ll use a separate audio i/o and this looks like the perfect tool for us with small sound mixing needs.
Thanks, Michael

March 15, 2009 at 6:26 pm in reply to: Setting Previous Chapter Menu to go to a different timelineJon,
Thanks for your reply!
I did try to recreate the DVD with everything on one timeline, and using end actions at each chapter mark to jump to the next video.
However, when building the project, I am met with this error:
error:
Blu-ray Object: “video title with no extension”, Error: “invalid time”, Code: “24”, Note: “start + duration exceeds clip duration”I checked that all my clips and audio are of the same length, and they are the same assets / media used on the other project when building with different timelines.
Could you shield some light on to how I can fix this new issue?
Thanks!

December 4, 2008 at 7:58 pm in reply to: How to reset log and transfer source order in preferenceThe post is actually a post on reduser.net (https://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?p=340543&posted=1#post340543)
See Post # 14.
I’ve uninstalled the RED on the machine and ingestion is still not happening. The order is now AVC-Intra, then P2.
We were able to ingest through another system. Upon checking log and transfer window on that system, it is P2, then AVC-Intra.
As for EX 1 material. We downloaded a newer log and transfer plugin and was provided with a completely new interface, and was able to ingest those material.

Thank you everyone for their input and advice.
And Jan, seeing how this unit is shy of a week old, and the hot spot was apparent the first time we turned it on, we’ll bring it back to our dealer and have it checked out.
Thank you again.

So it is still at 960 x 540 with pixel shifting.
Thanks for the info.

June 5, 2008 at 1:00 am in reply to: is it possible to play QT files through intensity pro card to HDTVRitchie,
We have mainly been using the Intensity Pro with FCP and the combination is working great.. We’ve used it with both FCP 5.x.x and 6.x.x
We have not try running it with Color, but will try to give it a go later this weekend when our edit suite get some down time.
As far as using Black Magic Media Express to play out to our HDTV, we are still figuring out what formats are supported. I suspect only .mov QT files work (we’ve had success with the DV codec and DVCProHD codec), .avi and .mp4 are not playing.
Once we do a bit more testing this weekend, I’ll try to post another update.
Cheers,
MK—

June 4, 2008 at 1:02 am in reply to: is it possible to play QT files through intensity pro card to HDTVDear Kristian,
Thanks for the reply. I needed to upgrade my driver and firmware and now the Black Magic Media Express (same as Blackmagic Deck Control?) application is available to me.
This is exactly what I was looking for.
Though I do wish perhaps QTplayer or VLC would have this option built in!
Lastly, I wanted to ask – are there a list of codecs / formats that Black Magic Media Express supports (or not support?) For example, I can play most of my .mov quicktime files, but am not able to open up some .mp4 and .avi files.
Thank you again.
