Setting Previous Chapter Menu to go to a different timeline
Dear all,
I am trying to author a BluRay DVD with four different timelines.
The first two timeline contains two different trailers, the third timeline our main movie, and the four timeline and thank you note from the director. Each timeline had a interval chapter marker set at 19 minutes.
I had set up the DVD to first play at the first railer. At the end of each timeline, I had set up an end action for it to go to the next timeline.
This works fine and when playing the DVD, it would go from timeline to timeline (admittedly, there is a little pause b/w timeline, but I can live with that.)
However, problem arise when one wants to rewind / fast-forward the disc. Hitting the next chapter button would allow me to move to the next chapter, and when one timeline runs out of chapter markers, it would jump to the next timeline.
But, when I want to go back, the disc will not go back to a previous timeline. Ie, when I hit chapter marker 1 on the 3rd timeline, instead of going back to the 4th chapter marker of timeline 2, it will remain at chapter 1 on timeline 3.
Is there a way to force previous chapter to to a previous timeline?
I had tried creating a playlist and it yields the same result – previous chapter is only functional on one timeline.

That is just the way it functions with separate timelines. But since you are not using a menu, why not just place all the clips in a single timeline?

I did try to recreate the DVD with everything on one timeline, and using end actions at each chapter mark to jump to the next video.
However, when building the project, I am met with this error:
error:
Blu-ray Object: “video title with no extension”, Error: “invalid time”, Code: “24”, Note: “start + duration exceeds clip duration”I checked that all my clips and audio are of the same length, and they are the same assets / media used on the other project when building with different timelines.
Could you shield some light on to how I can fix this new issue?

I don’t understand why you need to set end actions for each chapter. If it’s on the same timeline, it automatically goes to the next video on the timeline. If you remove the end actions of the chapters, and you still get the error, try starting the project over from scratch.
Import all the video and audio as assets. Create a new timeline. Drag the clips into the timeline one by one. It should automatically place chapters at each video start. You can add additional chapters if necessary. Name your disc, and try to build that.

I received the same error while building a blu-ray dvd. The blu-ray object was the BlankHDMenu for me. Since I had it linked to video and audio, I re-rendered it with the same settings as the rest of the videos. I think I might of had PAL checked instead of NTSC, not sure if that was the problem or just a bad render. Either way after hours of messing with encore, the re-render solved the problem.

I am also running into this issue with playlists vs chapter playlists (using CS4). I noticed your posting in the hopes of finding a solution but since no one had one I made up my own. Although it is too late for your project, hopefully it will help someone else.
I noticed that each chapter can have its own End Action and I also noticed that the previous chapter command only works within a timeline. Therefore I created a small blank chapter at the start of each timeline whose End Action points to the desired target (presumably the start of the last chapter of the previous timeline). Now the key is to make all of the standard link traversing of your flowchart to utilize the SECOND chapter of each timeline (since the first chapter is this dummy “jump previous” chapter).
Hooray! Now I can work on clips with autonomy by using separate timelines for the various contributions in my compilation and then create forward and backward playlists by changing the End Actions. It is a kludge but appears to work; lemme know if it works for you.
