Sorry to post again – but jus a clarification on #2.

I need to be able to quickly re-edit those title cards later within FCP. Since we are still re-editing while laying down subtitles. (we have a very tight time frame…)

Mac Caption seems to allow me to create subtitles based on tc quickly and easily while watching the video. But I don’t think it allows me to edit the titles later once they are generated. (I might be wrong, but I’m still going through the manual.) I’d be greatful if you can point me towards any short cuts!

Thanks very much for the quick response!

I’m still going through all the websites that you posted and they are filled with great information!

But I do have two follow up questions – particularly in regards to my current situation.

1. For the subtitles that I’ve already created in Title Generator, is there a quick way to “import” them into Boris 3D title? Or, even jus allow me to quickly reformat them (text font / size in particular).

2. In regards to all of the software that you had recommended, it seems I’ll have to manually import each line of text onto the timeline too. Do you know of any software that will allow me to quicken this process? Either utilizing some form of XML import / export, or subtitling tapping using say a text file?

Thanks for the reply.

We shot with DVCPRO HD 720p24 with the HVX200. We went straight into the fIrestore FS-100, direct to disk recorder.

I believe the footage came in as DVCPRO HD 720, but at a recording frame rate of 60. Even though our frame rate format is at 24p. When we import the files through the Import P2 field in FCP, there is an option to check the remove advanced pulldown / duplicated frames to “transcode” the files back down to a 24p clip.

However, that was not done on our last import and we ended up having 720p60 clips rather than 720p24. And, mistakenly, instead of running a reverse telecine that would take out the extra frames, a conform to 23.98 was done. This resampled the frame rate of the clips, resulting in “overcranked” slow motion clips (similar to film, where you would record at 60fps but project at 24fps).

We would like to reverse this conform process and have the clip turn back into its original state of 720p60. Of course, the best would be for us to be able to force an advanced pulldown to the clips to turn them into 24p clips so we can edit them on the same timeline too. But, we would be very satisified in just having the original 720p60 master clips back too.

Any suggestions?

At this point, we are only able to get 4gig PS cards. We do have three of those, but shooting at DVCPRO HD data rate (1080 or 720), yields a ~1gig / min storage need. That comes out to about 8 min of continuous shoot with the two 4 gig cards in the two slots. And you are right, since this is a documentary shoot, we’d rather be prepared and ready to capture, rather than offloading cards while things are happening. As well, we are anticipating some run-and-gun situation where the ability to keep rolling is useful.

Hope this help explains why we chose to go with the FireStore!

Thanks for the Apple White Paper Link. We did find it and had read through it. However, although the document details the workflow on how to import P2 into FCP, it doesn’t specifically give us anything regardng the use of he FireStoer FS-100 with the HVX200. That’s why we created this new workflow.
