FCP control surface – does M-audio Project mix i/o work?
Dear all,
We are looking to purchase a control surface that we’d like to use with FCP.
I know that the Mackie boards would work, but am wondering if the M-audio Project Mix I/O will also work. (https://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/ProjectMixIO.html)
The m-audio board is a better option for us because it serves the purpose of being a control service and audio I/O.
If any one has an experience with this, any advice and suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Can’t speak for the M-audio control, but strictly for control surfaces, I use a Frontier Designs Alphatrack on one system and a Mackie Pro Control (MCU Pro) on the main edit system. Both are fully programable/customizable and both work great.

Thanks for the reply!
I looked at the specs for the Frontier Designs Alphatrack, and it looks like a very nifty little device. Can you give me any additional advice / comments about it?
I think we’ll use a separate audio i/o and this looks like the perfect tool for us with small sound mixing needs.

THe AlphaTrack is completely programable through the FCP Keyboard interface. It has choices of modifiers to do what the key board can do (I believe up to 48 programable buttons). I programed it to do mark in, mark out, clear marks, etc. It has play and stop buttons, there is a track pad that if you drag one finger it jobs smoothly one frame at a time, if you drag two fingers it shuttles smoothly– the longer your drag with two fingers the faster it shuttles. (You have to keep the audio mixer window open as it is a midi device).
It really works great. You can program audio fades with the the motorized faders.
I’ve since moved it two the second editing bay and use a Mackie MCU pro in the main room– that has 8 motorized faders with a real jog wheel (alas the wheel does not shuttle– it’s an apple FCP issue I think, not Mackie), and programable buttons.
