Thanks for the input – the setup seems to work OK, but using those mini jack just doesn’t seem…um – professional…
I’m running FW to a deck and then to the monitor, so both audio and video are being transferred via FW at the same time.

Yes, I installed the upgrade. I just don’t recall seeing Livetype as an option to install.
I am hoping that the FCS2 upgrade is the same as a fresh install and you don’t need to have FCS HD installed, just the origninal serial #.-Mike

Thanks for the advice regarding Media Manager – I’ve need some understanding of the “use existing” function as well, but certainly Russel’s suggestion will work. Just wish media manager was a bit more intuitive.
Seems that my PS garnered the most attention. I’m not complaining about anything, EXCEPT that I’ve got a fully usable box with FCS2 in it sitting on my desk that I can’t utilize because of the serial #. I called Apple and was directed to e-mail a specific person in the software side of the house – to date, no response to my message. I WILL return it and buy the new Academic version and pay whatever cost differnce there is – I just figure it’s idiodic to ship it back and forth to get the same freakin’ software with a different access code. I mean, Apple is supposed to be soooo customer oriented…
Don’t even get me started about the upgrade offered last year – the discs I sent them got lost in the mail or whatever. At any rate they didn’t recieve them and wouldn’t do jack s@#t for me.

Arrange the columns as you want them by dragging them into place.
CTL Click on any column other than NAME and you will have the option to save the layout. To access the layout just CTL click and choose the layout you want and everything will be cool!

Guys – I’ve got multiple projects going at once – one of them is 50 gigs at the moment, another is 30, etc… doesn’t take long to use up 500 gigs. I’ve got a number of external drives, but I’ve had problems editing from them in the past as far as keeping up with the video – I haven’t even tried it on the newest drives – maybe I will this time.
Did you miss the fact that I’ve got a TB drive on the way????Neither of you bothered to answer my initial question, which wasn’t “do I need a bigger drive”…DUH!

As for wiring on mine I’m coming out via firewire into the front of the deck – it’s got DV in. I can’t capture from it though, it’s only one way. Your card may give you other options.

I do the same as Walter. Only drawbacks are recording in real time, so a 30 minute program takes 30 minutes, which is 30 minutes you can’t be editing something else. The other is the menu. No fancy menus on these recorders, thus I mostly use it as a quick way to burn rough edits for review by the client. I build the DVD proper in DSP after final approval. Oh, and I’ve had a few instances where the burned discs wouldn’t play in the clients machine, but it seems the newer the playback machine, the better the chance.

The announcement should come Sunday. Expect shipping within 2 – 3 months. This is straight from of a guy at Apple tech support that I just got off the phone with.

Just talked to a guy at Apple Tech. Indeed verion 6 will be something everyone will need to upgrade to (if they so choose and want to keep up with the latest advances). The crossgrade was a patch until 6 was ready. You will not need the original disks in order to upgrade, just the serial numbers and activation codes from your previous version.
So it’s not all that bad unless you want to migrate to an Intel based machine prior to purchasing the upgrade to version 6.
