Reading the “Longtime Apple Fan” post was not encouraging at all. But, if FCS 6.0 is about to be released, will it upgrade from 5.04? Was the crossgrade just a patch to keep people using the Intel machines covered until 6.0 was finished?
In other words, am I wasting time worring about this because I’ll need to buy the upgrade to 6 regardless of whether I’m running 5.04 or have crossgraded to 5.12?

September 12, 2006 at 8:22 pm in reply to: Loss of audio sync when previewing to external monitorYes – you got it. What I was looking at was the uncompressed file from the browser in the viewer. It does make a lot of sense. I am working with the DV codec and understand the rendering process – as I said it all renders nicely, I was just wondering why the difference in the viewer – now I see.
Thanks!

September 12, 2006 at 6:19 pm in reply to: Loss of audio sync when previewing to external monitorThank you for your help – the problem is dropped frames. I don’t understand why they are being dropped, but whatever. I’ve also enabled auto render.
Maybe you can help me with this – I’ve got a still photo up in front of me right now – it’s kind of black and white line art, so I’ve deinterlaced it and added sepia. I’m viewing it on an external monitor and the quality of the picture on the monitor varies as to whether I have the viewer, canvas or timeline activated. All seem to show the applied effects, but it is much clearer on the monitor when the viewer is active than when the canvas or timeline are active. For instance – I can read the caption when the viewer is activated, but not when the other two are active. It renders fine anyway. So it’s just a question of resources I suppose.

I’d be interested in all other comments as well, while I am brushing up on my math skills!-Mike

IMHO it’s a sad, sad oversight on the part of Apple.

I believe, if I read your question right, you simply double click on the clip in the browser which will load it into the viewer. Once in the viewer find your inpoint and hit “i” on the keyboard to set the inpoint, find your outpoint and hit “o” (or whatever method you choose) to set the outpoint and that’s it. The clip has been changed in the browser – you can now drag the clip to the timeline from the viewer, or load another clip into the viewer – the first clip will return to the browser with the in and out points you selected and you can drop it into the timeline whenever you like.

Hmmm….the only thing I can see straight away might be the time code issue. If timecode is not on the tapes (or is not consistent) make sure you are using “capture now”. Not being familiar with Digital Beta, maybe it’s a tracking issue?
Good luck. This is a great forum and if this doesn’t help, I am sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction.
