Footage comes in as 4 mono (there is no dual mono option).
    Was recorded as XDCAM:
    input 1 = lav,
    input 2 =empty
    input 3 = onboard L
    input 4 = onboard R

Of course I’m only concerned with the LAV on track 1.

If I change from “four mono” to “two stereo” then one of the tracks (the one with the lav mic) hits the proper levels – but is panned to one side. The other side seems to be the onboard mic.
Right clicking and opening in the timeline and disabling or deleting all but the target track seems to work. A lot of steps though.

One way is to import your cupcake image or create a black box via Effects>video generators>Shapes . Place your shape, cupcake whatever, on the track above the main footage, size an position accordingly via the motion tab.

Here’s where it gets a bit tricky – you’ll need to keyframe the position of the shape to follow her movements via the center function within the basic motion area of the motion tab. If she doesn’t move much it will be easy, if she moves a lot – more keyframing for you.

Someone may have an easier way, but this will work Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks John, even that little tip saves a lot of time!

  • Problem WAS the hard drive – used xbench to determine the issue. Switched capture to another drive and captured with no errors.
Ordered a new drive from OWC, installed and all is back to normal.
    Thanks for all your help!

To solve your problem at the moment you need to select your audio tracks go to MODIFY>LINK (make sure link is unchecked), then shift click on your audio in track 11 and bring it up to track 8. When done be sure to select BOTH tracks and MODIFY>LINK them together again.

My guess is that the clips were associated with separate tracks when you imported/captured. On the left of the sequence you’ll see A11; A7, etc… and another a11; a7 (or maybe they are just separated by 4 tracks). You need to click on a11 and drag it to a8 – this will cause all your NEWLY imported audion to be on sequential tracks in the future.

  • Thanks again to the COW the problem is solved. It was indeed a hard drive speed issue. Now to figure out what’s up with the drive – or better yet get a new one on the way.
Thank you Jean, for pointing me in the right direction and hopefully helping anyone else with the same issue.

  • The hard drive speed thing sounds very plausible. I will check into it.

  • I just completed a project like this. Playback was jerky and export produced out of synch video and audio. Ended up converting the 1080 footage to standard DV for editing. Worked fine.

  • Sorry for not giving all the info, but I’ve been doing this for so long I know what the problem is not, and it’s not the deck, it’s not the settings. But here goes:

    Format: SD 16:9
    Deck = JVC HR-DVS2. Old school miniDV/SVHS.
Alternative capture devices: Sony HC-9; Sony V1U.
Capture settings: Firewire NTSC basic/DV NTSC 48kHz (anamorphic). Have tried NTSC and NDF to no avail.
No other firewire devices attached to system (unless transferring from said external drive).
    OSX: 10.6.7
    FCP: 7.0.3

It’s especially frustrating when you’ve been using the same set up for years and for whatever

Thanks for the tips John. I’ll try nesting first and if I still have a problem I’ll check into your other suggestions. Thanks for giving a number of options to choose from.
