Nope. Avid puts media in this path only:
Z:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\[Numbered Folder]\[MEDIA]
Using the “Subst D: Z:\My Folder” command is your only option if you want to work with way.
A better option would be to let Avid do what it does, than use MDV (free – do a search on CreativeCow for the link) or MediaCopy to copy/move your media after you’re done.
y recommendation is for MediaCopy – it’s cheap ($95) and Automatic Duck has a reputation for quality products, and their customer support is great too. Plus, it does a lot more than MDV does.

You can’t put MXF media into the OMFI MediaFiles folder.
First, remove all the MXF media for your OMFI MediaFiles folder.
Open Avid. Make a project. Go to your Media Creation Settings and set your Media to MXF. If you need to, import a still frame or make a new title and save it – this will force Avid to make the MXF folder structure for you.
Close Avid.
Go to the newly created MXF folders and transfer your MXF media into the numbered folder Avid created. It will look like this, assuming M: is your media drive:
M:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1\[PUT YOUR MXF MEDIA HERE]
Restart Avid. It should rescan and see the MXF media now.

About every 6 – 8 months. Media Composer 3 was released November 2008, if I recall correctly. Then 3.5, then 4, then 5 earlier this year.

What is your source material? Is it on tape? P2? Was it all file imports?
As a rough guide – first, duplicate your sequence, then decompose it. It will make new master clips based on what was used in your sequence.
Switch your project to HD under the format tab.
Batch import all graphics in the decompose bin, recreate titles of your master sequence at an HD resolution, then batch capture the footage of your decomposed sequence or batch import it, depending on the source material.
It should all be HD now.

Any HDV or DVCProHD Quicktime files created by FCP cannot be read natively on a system without FCP installed. You can buy a DVCProHD decoder for the DVCProHD files from Raylight. Not sure about HDV though.

The bad news is, once you install the decoder you’re still going to have to reimport the files. Avid imported them and created MXF media from the undecoded files – that white screen is baked into the Avid media.
However, if you’re on MC5.x, you can AMA the Quicktime clips and consolidate/transcode them. It may faster than a straight import, and you can preview the files first then consolidate/transcode only the files you need.
EDIT: Download the trial of the HDV Decoder from Calibrated and open an HDV Quicktime in Quicktime. If the white screen is gone, buy the decoder and reimport them into Avid.

You can either change the interpretation of the source footage to Center Cut, then update the sequence (RightClick it and go to Update Sequence – Source Formatting), or you can add a new video track above all other tracks and drop a Pan and Scan effect on it. Set your input to 16:9 Anamorphic and your output to 4:3. Cut that track into sections to move your center cut right or left, depending on your shots.
Render, output, relax!

I know that BCC has a Drop Shadow effect that you can apply to Matte Key effects. Drag it directly onto the Matte Key effect (don’t Alt+Drag it to nest it – just drag it). It will replace the Matte Key effect, then in the Boris effect you choose to apply it to the TitleMatte.
I believe Sapphire has something similar, but I haven’t used Sapphire effects in 4 years so I can’t remember.

In the Color Correction toolset you can Alt+Click on the C1, C2, etc… to save the grade there, or drag the Color box to your bin. See the pic below:
