Problems getting mxf footage into avid
Hi there,
I am working on an Avid suite with version 2.5.3 installed. I recently bought a new camera, the Sony EX3, in which to use for filming. I have managed to get the video into the Sony clip browser and exported as .AAF which creates the corresponding AAF and MXF file.
However, when i try to start up Avid while this media is in the OMFI folder it brings up the error “*the file name* does not appear to be an OMF file” and then tells me to either quarantine, abort or ignore the scan. Then when i try to import the footage after ignoring the error it just says “media offline”.
Avid hasn’t created a folder for MXF files and so there is no other folder to try importing the media files into.
Any ideas as to why it doesn’t like the MXF footage? (and apologies for this post being so long and boring!)

You can’t put MXF media into the OMFI MediaFiles folder.
First, remove all the MXF media for your OMFI MediaFiles folder.
Open Avid. Make a project. Go to your Media Creation Settings and set your Media to MXF. If you need to, import a still frame or make a new title and save it – this will force Avid to make the MXF folder structure for you.
Close Avid.
Go to the newly created MXF folders and transfer your MXF media into the numbered folder Avid created. It will look like this, assuming M: is your media drive:
M:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1\[PUT YOUR MXF MEDIA HERE]
Restart Avid. It should rescan and see the MXF media now.
