If you looking at a price that’s too good to be true, it likely is. With such a low price you’ll find grey market good sold by unauthorized dealers or outright scam artists. Maybe they won’t ship your product until you buy so many overpriced accessories you end up paying more than if you had just bought it from a reputable dealer. Create PIP effects and save them with obvious labels to one bin for only effects. Names like Upper Right 25% scale. Lower Left 50% scale Right Crop 25%. Then you can just drop the effect that represents the box you need on the clip you want, tweak a little if necessary, done!

I think you need to convert the mpegs to a file format Avid recognizes, like Quicktime. Avid doesn’t like mpeg files. Use a third party app like Sorenson Squeeze. Quicktime Pro might do it–does it read mpeg? I don’t use Quicktime Pro, so I’m not sure. Or do a google search for mpeg conversion software. Should turn something up.

I think Joe hit the nail on the head–it all depends on the video and playing with settings. Flash can be gorgeous and the file sizes seem to be manageable. H.264 is very impressive.
I personally prefer using a third party app like Sorenson Squeeze to compress my files. The results seem much nicer.

LOL. That is an awesome comment. While I agree that Avid’s titling does need a major update, when clients get involved there a lot of things that don’t work like they’re supposed to!
If you can use a third party app like Inscriber (I have no experience with it) or Photoshop and can save png or targa files (my favorites to use in Avid) you’ll be good to go. You’ll also get much better looking titles than with Avid’s regular title tool!

I still suggest just cutting it in over and over. If you go through the console and force the imported still to be 30 minutes long instead of 60 seconds you’ll be creating a much, much larger file. There’s no reason to bog your system down and take up drive space with 1 long graphic.
If you have a bug that’s going over an entire show just cut it (B) onto the top video track, repeat. After hitting the B key a few times select all of the titles you’ve cut in, hit Alt+C to copy it to your source monitor, then cut this longer bit in. You can bug an entire show in about 15 seconds quite easily.

Have your promotions people consolidate on their end so they keep only the section they used. Then delete the original clip.
I also suggest making a policy where promotions has a limited amount of time to back up/consolidate their projects or the original files get purged. As important at marketing and promotions is to news (I work in news promotions :-)–it’s not as important as the news, and if you can’t load your footage to edit the news, that’s bad news. They should be a little more considerate, in my opinion.

Make a rectangle. Select it with the pointer. Go to the bottom left corner of the title tool and find the shape that looks like a rounded corner. Click and hold it, select the roundness (or click the … and punch in a number). It will round the corners of your rectangle.

What exactly do you mean? Do you have an animated alpha that you want to freeze frame?
If you’re importing a still matte key just cut it into the timeline a few times until it’s as long as you want.
I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking. What exactly did you import and what do you want it to do?
