New HVX200 Large Price Range
I am considering changing formats and purchasing an HVX200 and I’ve noticed a huge range of prices. Going from list price down to below $2000.00 for a new in box rig. The low end of the scale looks mighty attractive, but these cameras are coming from large suppliers with 1-800 phone numbers. Can anyone enlighten me on why there is such a large range and what I need to be aware of if I purchase from someone who is selling at such a low price. What is the catch? And what will I be missing? And also what questions should I be asking.

If you looking at a price that’s too good to be true, it likely is. With such a low price you’ll find grey market good sold by unauthorized dealers or outright scam artists. Maybe they won’t ship your product until you buy so many overpriced accessories you end up paying more than if you had just bought it from a reputable dealer. Beware!!!!
They are scam artists. Do not use grey market vendors.The products are stripped models with no batteries, chargers or anything. They will put you in a high pressure sales position to buy extras and if you dont buy what they want to sell (1 battery for $149, it’s shipping $130) they just say the item is out of stock(and they will harass you a lot before they give up). They operate under many names, most listed as LLC (Limited Liability Corporation). I would highly recommend using a Panasonic authorized dealer, as the grey market products(imports) will have no US warranty and might have their screen displays in Japanese or another language.

You’d be surprised how many of these so-called “legitimate” companies are nothing more than scam operations.
