When you say Media Services business it sounds like you mean primarily pre/postproduction services, or are you wanting to get into the media buying business as well (become a full fledged agency)?
If you’re also wanting to go into media buying, you need to find an experienced media buyer. A media buyers world is complicated, and you really need to know what you’re doing to get a good buy, hit the right demographic, and with enough frequency to do your clients any good. If you’re just buying blind you’re wasting your time and your client’s money.
Regardless of what type of business you’re wanting, read Walter’s articles. They’re very well done and outline a lot of the details most people don’t think about, or even know to think about.
Also, if you’ve never done sales–consider finding a good salesperson to work with. They could make commission on the clients they bring you, you make money on the production services. Sales is a tough, tough business and if you don’t have a thick skin it will quickly get to you.

Upgrade to MEdia Composer 3.0.5 (just released–if you have 3.0 it’s a free upgrade) and you’ll have Select All Right of Position Indicator and Select All Left of Position Indicator, like FCP. So select all, move them down, insert clip, move them back.

Possibly. Not a definite yes, but many Avid problems are the result of upgrading your Quicktime to a much too recent version.
Do you have another system you can use to get what you need from iTunes? Why do you need to use iTunes?

Do you have a spare hard drive you can close your current one to?
If you do, clone your drive, boot off the clone to make sure it works, then upgrade. I upgraded as soon as it was released (well, the next morning) and I have about 3 projects going right now with a few more to start in the coming weeks. No issues so far (disclaimer–I’m on a PC, not a Mac).
I’m not sure why you system is hanging when you quit MC. I haven’t heard of that issue. What are your system specs?

New buttons to map to your keyboard or button bar that let you select all clips to the Right or Left of your Position Indicator on selected tracks (like FCP), or between In and Out points on selected tracks (which I can’t get to work right).
Some bug fixes.
Support for some format of XDCam (not sure which, I’ve never used XDCam).
Generate a report of your clips and/or sequences. Great if you work offline/online so you can see what clips were used, what effects, etc…

Not sure on a Mac, but check the Sound Card Configuration settings. Also, when you switch back to Avid make sure the speaker icon at the top of your timeline (not the actual audio tracks) isn’t muted. If it is, unmute it and see if it lets iTunes play.

Sounds like your XPress Pro install has been corrupted someone.
If I were you, I’d back up my projects, uninstall Avid, then reinstall it. Also, do you have automatic updates running, and are you connected to the internet? If yes, turn off automatic updates–an update to Windows can sometimes break your Avid software, and internet access isn’t recommended because of viruses, updates, etc…

PS. Do you have AVG running all the time? If so, turn it off/uninstall it. Anti-virus software can mess with Avid too. I’d suggest uninstalling it and pulling your Avid offline (if it’s currently connected to the internet).

When Avid exports (or imports) a Quicktime it strips the timecode. However, with Quicktime Pro I believe you can add a timecode track, so you may be able to manually input the timecode after export.
I’ve never tried it so I can’t tell you for sure it will or won’t work, but it would be worth trying.
