Nope, not that I’m aware of.
In your Audio Project settings pick the one you want: wav, aiff-c, PCM. I use PCM (MXF), but everything I capture is MXF so it makes media management easier for me.
If I chose wav or aiff I would have video in my Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1 folders and audio in my OMFI MediaFiles folders. I prefer to keep everything in one folder.

Sounds like you now have 16:9 anamorphic footage. Apply a Pan and Scan (I think it’s under the Reformat category in your Effects Palette) and drop a 16:9 reformat effect on it. It will unstretch your footage and letterbox it.
If you don’t want it letterboxed, apply a Pan and Scan, set the source to 16:9 Anamorphic and the result (or whatever the second option is) to 4:3. It will unstretch your footage and centercut it (I think these are the right options–not in front of an Avid right now). This will cut off the sides of your 16:9 footage but you won’t have the letterbox.

1. Zoom into Video or Picture? If video, Resize or Picture in Picture or 3D Warp (look in your effects palette under Blend and Image categories).
If pictures: Avid Pan and Zoom (under Image, maybe?). Read the help files on how to use it–it will let you zoom in on a hi resolution pic. Blowing it up in Avid using Resize/PIP/3D Warp won’t work for this.
2. Change your import settings. Instead of choosing 601/Non-Square, choose Square Maintain or Square/Resize (or something like that–the third and forth options in the first box of your Import dialog box).

I’m with Mark on using Sorenson via a quicktime reference from Avid.
If you have Sorenson installed on your Avid (or another compression program), the quicktime reference shouldn’t take more than a few seconds to export (it points to the original Avid media, but in a Quicktime wrapper so programs like Sorenson can read it).

If your system doesn’t have the resolution it would say “Wrong Format”, not ‘Media Offline’.
Having the media on an external drive shouldn’t matter, provided it’s in the right place. Let’s call your external drive E:\.
If it’s MXF media it should be E:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1\[MEDIA FILES]
The 1 is any numbered folder. If anything is different, from the spacing to the capitalization–Avid won’t see the media.
If it’s OMF media it should look like this: E:\OMFI MediaFiles\[MEDIA]
Is this the file structure of your external drive? Does Avid rebuild the databases when you delete them?
You also say this was a consolidated project–the did give you the bin/sequence that was relinked to the consolidated media, right? If you consolidate the media and try to relink the full master clip, it won’t relink. You need to have the relinked consolidated master clips and sequence.
Otherwise, have you selected the final sequence and tried a relink? It may be work a shot. And try a File–>Mount All after you boot Avid to make sure it’s looking for and seeing the External drive.

You may want run Repair Permissions anyway. That can help a lot, even if it seems nothing else has changed. Do any of your other programs have auto-update turned on? Sometimes even a simple update can break things.

Is this 16:9 SD? If so, what you’ve shot it anamorphic, so when you burn your DVD you need to set it to 16:9. This will put a flag on the DVD that your DVD player should see and will letterbox (as you’ve seen) on a 4:3 TV, or unsquish it and play it full screen on a 16:9 TV. Even then, you’re going to lose about 10% because that’s how TVs work. Digital projectors might show more, but I’ve never used one so I can’t say one way or the other.
To better understand why you’re losing 10% of your image, open Avid and turn on your Safe Title grid you’ll see two boxes–the bigger box is about 10% in, and that’s your action safe. Inside of that is a smaller box, which is title safe. TVs cut off about 10% of the image, so any action that you need to see should be within the bigger box. When you make titles, put them in the smaller box, which is about 20% in. This ensures they won’t be cut off by the TV either, especially Grandma’s tv from the 1960s that she just won’t give up. Every TV is different. We just made a DVD that played back on 6 TVs in one room–every one of them cut off something different.
If you’re submitting this to a festival that can display it 16:9, burn a 16:9 DVD and the player will display it full screen, but you will still lose about 10% of what you see in your editor. That’s just how TVs work. Again, digital projectors may be different. But if they can accept 16:9, don’t send them 4:3.

Joe is right–you’ll be fine. My Media Composer 3 dongle still runs Xpress Pro 5.2. They’re backwards compatible.
