WAV or AIFF?
Posted by Dustin Schmitt on October 7, 2008 at 5:28 pmJust curious?
Does Avid have a better preference when using either WAVE or AIFF?
Thanks

October 7, 2008 at 5:40 pmNope, not that I’m aware of.
In your Audio Project settings pick the one you want: wav, aiff-c, PCM. I use PCM (MXF), but everything I capture is MXF so it makes media management easier for me.
If I chose wav or aiff I would have video in my Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1 folders and audio in my OMFI MediaFiles folders. I prefer to keep everything in one folder.

Will it have any affect on a 5.1 mix?
Thanks

October 8, 2008 at 7:42 amAIF, WAV and PCM(MXF) all write the exact same data, but to a different container file. That’s it. It has no implications on the type of mix you will be doing. If you are going to export to an audio workstation, you’ll need to make sure that the device is capable of handling the format you choose. ProTools will handle all three.
