Hello: I’m updating Media Composer from 2.3 to 3.0. Additionally, I’m updating my CPU as well from a xw8000 to an xw8600. I have the new 8600 offline and have loaded XP and all the necessary hardware and software–including MC 3.0.

This issue is this: I still have active projects on the old Avid that still need to be completed before transferring everything to the new machine. However, in the meantime, I’d like to play with the new 3.0 software off-line until my current projects are completed. In order to do that, I need to update the dongle. If I update the dongle to activate the new Avid software on the xw8600, will the dongle still work with the orginal xw8000 running MC 2.3?

    Thanks, Craig

    Yes, you should be fine.

I have an xw8600 running MC 3 and use the same dongle for a second system, an nw laptop running MC 3, and a third system, an xw8000 running Xpress Pro.

Joe is right–you’ll be fine. My Media Composer 3 dongle still runs Xpress Pro 5.2. They’re backwards compatible.

    Michael.
