I have had a terrible day and am nearing the end of my tether, so hopefully someone here can help…

I think my problems stem from a message my Avid Xpress Pro has started giving me when I open it:

‘Please wait while Windows configures Avid Xpress Pro’

Then a sort of auto-installer opens up, and it is looking for the file ‘AvidXpressPro.msi’ (which I can find no info on). This file isn’t in its directory. So I have been clicking ‘Cancel’ because there should be no need for Windows to be configuring anything anyway – my Xpress pro has been working just fine and I haven’t changed anything on my system.

It tries to do this a few times before settling down, but now I have been getting other errors which I’ve never had before (some of them sound quite worrying):

‘Pyromaniac: ArmVideoConfidence – send message failed’

‘Exception: ADV AudioDev: Failed to set DIO audio sample rate’ (Audio wouldn’t play the time this error appeared)

‘Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. Runtime Error. Programme C:\Programme FIles\Avid\Avid XpressPro.exe R6025 – pure virtual function call’

So I’m really quite stressed. I’ve scanned my Avid Folders with AVG and there’s no faults detected; I’ve checked my dongle utility manager and the DongleScan.avd file is in the correct directory; I’m thinking/hoping it will all be to do with this .msi file but really don’t know what to do. Can anyone shed any light?

(Running Avid Xpress Pro 5.8 On PC under Xp)

Sounds like your XPress Pro install has been corrupted someone.

If I were you, I’d back up my projects, uninstall Avid, then reinstall it. Also, do you have automatic updates running, and are you connected to the internet? If yes, turn off automatic updates–an update to Windows can sometimes break your Avid software, and internet access isn’t recommended because of viruses, updates, etc…

    Michae.

PS. Do you have AVG running all the time? If so, turn it off/uninstall it. Anti-virus software can mess with Avid too. I’d suggest uninstalling it and pulling your Avid offline (if it’s currently connected to the internet).

I do go online from time to time from my Avid, but I never have it connected to the Internet while Avid is running. I don’t have AVG running constantly, but I do go online to update it, and run full system scans a couple of times a week.

Also I don’t use automatic updates, and I checked and the last time I updated was 10th September. I’ve used my Avid many times since then and there have been no problems at all until today.

An uninstall/reinstall really isn’t an attractive option but in the worst case scenario I guess that’s what I’ll have to do.

I’ll hold out for a day or two in case anyone knows anything about this AvidXpressPro.msi file first.

OK I’ve just discovered something else – it works fine as long as I don’t have a deck connected or turned on, but as soon as I turn it on that’s when the trouble begins ie the ‘Please wait while Windows configures Xpress Pro’ appears.

So I can work just fine, as long as I don’t want to digitise or export anything :o/
