I was supposed to go the Promo conference my last year there but was told the week before that budgets were cut and I was out. Talk about a bummer. I won a corporate award at it too and wasn’t even there to accept it!
You guys do nice work. Looks like you a have jib and a lot of nice toys to mess with!
About the SCSI controller, I have no idea. I’m well versed on Avid, but not SCSI, particularly for the Mac. Hopefully someone else can chime in with an answer to that one.

WFIE and KLTV are sister stations, although I no longer work at WFIE (I should see about having my profile/bio changed).
I worked for Raycom for a year after they bought Liberty. I left last September when I was offered a job at a local agency. I liked news promotions, but definitely prefer agency work. More variety.

Right.
If you look at the root of your RAID you’ll see either (or both) an OMFI MediaFiles folder (holds all OMF media) or an Avid MediaFiles folder (hold MXF files).
If you look in the Avid MediaFiles folder you’ll see this file structure:
Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1 (or other numbered folders). In the 1 (or other numbered folders) you’ll see your MXF media. As long as you have this file structure, Avid will see your media.
If you look in the OMFI MediaFiles you’ll just see media. It should be set up exactly like that. If even the capitalization is different than what I’ve typed Avid won’t see it.
Put your projects in the new Avid Projects folder and they’ll show up in the startup box. Put them anywhere else and you’ll need to choose External Project and navigate to them.
If your media doesn’t relink when you start Avid, close it and delete all the media databases in your media folders. Restart Avid and it will rescan and reindex them and you should be good to go.

Install Avid on the new Mac.
Copy the Avid Projects folder from Old Mac and put it in the same place on New Mac.
Take all the media from Old Mac and put it in the same place on New Mac.
Repairing permissions would probably be a good idea.
Start Avid, edit.

Yes, if you put all your clips in a timeline you can mark In and Out and choose to adjust levels between In and Out, or just clear your In and Out and choose to set levels on the track globally.
The problem with this is that it doesn’t set the level on the source clip, which is what I understood the original poster wanted to do. You could always load all your clips into a timeline then load it into your source monitor and cut it from there, but it’s several hundred clips it will hard to navigate.
Good suggestion though. You could always do that then subsequence each piece of audio.

Definitely check with the broadcaster. When you buy a 1/2 hour infomercial, it’s 28:30. If you work on a 30 or 60 minute show (no paid programming) it may be different.
If you don’t ask, you may make a 52 minute show and have to cut time. So get a hold of the station(s) you’ll be sending this to and ask them exactly what they want. They should be able to send you a sheet of requirements.

Your OS is way, way wrong. You should be running somewhere around OS 10.3.4 or 10.3.4.
I’m guessing you have Quicktime 7.5.5 (or whatever the latest is)? You should be running 6.5.1.
And how did you even get Xpress DV installed on an Intel Mac? XpressDV was killed off before Intel Macs were even made. You really need to find an older system (G4 or G5) or upgrade your software.

Welcome to the one feature on Avid that works one release and doesn’t the next. The timecode settings. And sometimes the Video Output/Input settings.
You’re likely running a version where it doesn’t matter what you do to try to get Avid to remember that you want to see minutes and seconds, it will default to frames. You just have to change it every time you start up. If you upgrade to Media Composer 3 it’s working like it’s supposed to. I had the same frustrations when I was using Xpress Pro, so when they came out with the $500 upgrade price to MC I took it and have been loving it ever since.
Are you running the latest version of Xpress Pro? I think it’s 5.7.4, maybe 5.7.5. Check the Avid site for the latest version.

I’ve read a few reviews–voice recognition seems to be about 50% accurate–in others, a little better–but I haven’t seen any review that claims the actual 95%. The big question is, does it get close enough to make correcting the mistakes faster than transcribing it from scratch? If not, it’s a wash.
Premiere has certainly raised the stakes for FCP, Avid, et. al. if this release is stable and lives up to the hype. I think the stability factor will be key, though. Pack all the features into a program you want, but if the editor can’t trust it he won’t use it.
