I feel like I have seen this before but long ago. Have you trashed your prefs?

You probably have loop playback checked. Look under the ‘View’ Menu for ‘Loop Playback’. Keyboard shortcut is Control+L.

How are you setting it up? Maybe a bit more explanation can help us figure out where this jerk is coming from. In theory, if every frame is one still, a jerk would only happen because of a gap in your stills. If the duration of the stills varies, then I could see there would be an issue with timing it out.

I would be willing to bet that your white background isn’t the same as the white background you are compositing over. Check in the video scopes. You might be able to see it there. What are you using for your background? If it is a FCP “Matte Color”, use the eye-dropper to select the white in the video footage to get a better match.

  • I think your only problems would be with filesystem permissions for scratch directories, distributed rendering directories, etc. ACLs on your shared filesystem should be an adequate solution though. As far as the apps, should be no issues.

  • Yeah, I like the render to ProRes option. What is your final destination for your project? Chances are it is fine, but I have had some plugins tweak when rendering in either 8-bit or 10-bit respectively, so be aware of that. To be honest, most cameras shoot 8-bit video codecs (including XDCAM) to begin with so depending on your goals as far as effects/color you probably aren’t doing any damage. You may want to render 8-bit now if it will save time and go back to 10-bit for “online”. You probably won’t be able to see anything perceptible either way.

Isn’t that the 24pA cadence? Can you remove pulldown in AE in interpret footage dialog by clicking guess 24pA pulldown?

I would still use After Effects even if you can’t track it. I think there is still a lot more flexibility to rotoscope and parent objects together over FCP.

  • What percentage are is your Canvas set to? Try looking at an even denomination of 100%, like 50% or 25%. Having it set to “Fit to Window” will give you odd results. Or better yet, view on an external video monitor to judge quality.
