Yes it is not capable. (Don’t you love the English language. I could have said “No it is not capable” and everyone would have understood the double negative did not apply)
Sorry Andrew, Vers 5.1 was the first FCP version to support HDV. We are now up to version 7 btw.

All SD is 4:3 aspect. 16:9 is achieved by anamorphic squeeze and then stretch on display.
So print/ edit to tape the anamorphic timeline and all is well. Broadcasters, in my experience, always want the program anamorphic, not letterboxed, but check your deliverables to make sure.

There have been heaps of posts about wav file drift in FCP. try exporting a stereo aif file from Protools and drop that into your sequence. I suspect FCP is trying to be smart with wav file metadata and it gets itself confused.
I drop stereo aifs from my Fairlight into FCP 6.0.6 all the time without sync problems @ 25fps

Did you monitor the project on an external monitor? What are your sequence settings.
You can go to Compressor from the HD timeline, no need to nest in an SD timeline. Just make sure you select the correct settings to make the mpeg file.

The important thing is to avoid having media on your system drive.
If you have another internal, then it should be formatted to Mac extended.

Silly question, but if you don’t have a card, how were you monitoring, especially the grade?
Regarding animation or Uncompressed codecs, why not make a short test in each and see if AVID can import and play properly.

If your external drive disconnects then the offline clip message will appear. If you save the project with those clips offline, then you need to reconnect the drive and then reconnect the media.
Using your internal drive for capture scratch is also not recommended.

Nice accident. HDV will pull a better green screen than DV. Also try the green screening in Motion. I am going on numerous recommendations from others who green screen regularly and say that Motion does a much better job than FCP. It might solve the matte problems as well.

Why not send the drive to a facility with a proper hardware converter, that can do the standards conversion from the files and deliver back to you files in an appropriate codec.
You make no mention of the original codec but unless it is HDV, then going out to HDV tape is bad.

If you shot HD why is your sequence set to standard def DV codec? Apart from the fact that everything needs to be rendered, greenscreening with DV codec is a poor choice.
Drag a clip into a new sequence and FCP will prompt you to change the sequence settings to match the codec. That will tell what your sequence settings should be. Get that sorted before you try keying.
If you imported the footage as DV then you have to consider recapturing everything with the correct HDV settings.
