What a mess. Capturing to DVCProHD non controlled, editing in a sequence with H264 set as edit codec and audio at 44.1 – all in a modified AIC preset.
Firstly capture codec and sequence codec should match. Audio should be 48hz. Open a new sequence and drag a single shot in and FCP will ask if you want to chance sequence settings to match footage. Say yes and see what the sequence settings are.
Before capture and edit a workflow based on appropriate codecs should be planned. That way you won’t blame the tools when things don’t magically happen the way you might want them to. I am surprised the sequence plays at all.

If it is controlling & inserting, the cable is not to blame. FCP is sending an erroneous track arm command to the audio and if the ‘all off’ was selected, then I would guess time to trash prefs.
I always check the deck’s front panel to make sure, particularly inserting into a restriped master. You can deselect the audio track arms during the pre roll. FCP just sends a command but doesn’t keep polling the machine status so you can select and deselect on the machine during the pre roll.

Perhaps you are confusing them with the terminology. You have final mixes, not stems. Stems are elements of the mix – music, dialog, FX.
Yes the final stereo mix (Lt/Rt) needs to be hard panned hard left and right, or routed directly to a tape channel. What are they using to play out to tape?

I have always installed a new version on a new boot drive and had the option of dual booting the old OS/ version on startup by holding the alt key.
That way I have vers 5.1.4 and 6.0.6 available on the same machine. It will be tricky with the move to 7 as I am replacing all the hardware.

Pitch correction should be applied but externally using proper software. I have a slight gripe with the slow down or speed up that is being commonly used to go from 25 to 24 or 23.976 to 25. I sat through a restripe of a doco recently with the director, having sped up the final mix 4.1% to match the 23.976 to 25 speed up for the BBC version.
The director was horrified at what a mere 4% did to the pace of his edit in spite of the fact that the pitch was corrected. It changed the feel of the show and we were both amazed at how subtle timings of pauses after important dialog became shortened by the speed up. Perhaps we were the only ones to really notice the difference, but if that had been combined with all the music being 3/4 of a semi tone sharp and the female narrators voice becoming higher pitched, I think the audience would have found the program uncomfortable.
I know it is a typical thing that what looks best wins over sound, but I do not like this approach to standards conversion, even though I have MPEX3 software which does an amazing job of speed change with correct pitch.

I hope that’s TIC Jeremy. Although few people regard audio as important, it is actually more important and vastly cheaper to perfect than pictures. A lack of regard shows ignorance, something I wouldn’t expect from experienced advisors on a public forum.

Wrong. The green bar means it needs to render. This is unsurprising if you have that many video and audio tracks.

I would try with the Boris crawl rather than the FCP text tools. You have to select crawl not roll and although I haven’t used it in that mode, I am sure you can pick direction.
Like Richard said, you create the strap separately.

Sorry Harry but you have your compression ratios back to front. 2:1 is mild compression. 3:1 increases the compression. If you want more then increase the ratio further by putting a bigger number in front of the :1 like 6:1
All that said, the audio compression in FCP isn’t good.

Normalising just makes each clip as loud as it can be. This is not mixing and is not necessary. I mix audio properly on an external DAW and bring the mix back to FCP becasue FCP is a poor sound edit and mix tool.
If you have nothing better and cannot afford a proper sound mix, then export to Soundtrack Pro and learn to mix without normalise.
