Load 1 khz tone, adjust level to around -20db, mark in & out, select track and hit overwrite.
You will find tone as part of bars & tone. Depending on the audio level, you may wish to adjust the tone insert level.

Try dragging a shot into a 1080 sequence and see if FCP will change the sequence settings to the correct option.
Even though you can’t see it in Easy Setups, XDCam 720 might be available.

TV version should be interlaced. You can then create a deinterlaced QT file for web use. There are lots of deinterlacing options. Personally, I use Nattress deinterlacing plugins as they give you shot by shot control. Copy your sequence and name it as deinterlace or web before applying the filter. FCP’s deinterlace filter is basic and not recommended.
A popular alternative is to do the deinterlace in compressor when making the web version. This is done using frame controls and this has been covered many times so a search of the forum will offer details and other opinions.

I thought that XDCam always shoots 1080 not 720. You could use Prores or DVCProHD for your sequence

That is normal. It lets you name the file, set a cluster and priority. If you cancel that you are cancelling the submit.
If you want to just name then ignore the cluster setting (which on my machine just defaults to my computer). I set priority to high because I want it to go as fast as it can.

Sounds to me like the image is scaling rather than anamorphic distorting. What happens when the scaling is reset to 100% and the distort is on 33.3%? Does the picture look correct?
When 720 is put in a 1080 timeline the scaling is 150% so I am guessing it is something to do with anamorphic footage that isn’t flagged so it is scaling up instead of distorting.

The bandwidth is impressive, but I have been running a fibre channel RAID for nearly five years, so until I need to go to 4K uncompressed real time playback, I am covered.
A more impressive demo I saw a while ago on YouTube was with a RAID made up of solid state drives. The throughput from those drives was also really impressive and they don’t get hot. So maybe the future is a solid state RAID with a LightPeak connector.

The sample rate is set by the camera. When your files are converted from H264 to an editing codec like ProRes, the sample rate needs to be converted as well.
Compressor will do that conversion.

FCP Version 4.5 doesn’t have ProRes. That turned up in V6. You will need to convert using compressor to whatever SD codec you are able to work with. Match it to your other footage. Otherwise work down from uncompressed to DV50 (or DV if desperate.)
Don’t forget to convert the audio to 48khz at the same time. This camera has generated tons of posts here as it is a great image wrapped in a non editing codec with the wrong frame rate and audio sample rate.
Canon really should fix the obvious mistakes, but it will always need transcoding into an edit codec that FCP understands.
