For the record, ever since FCP tried to be clever and read embedded timecode info in bwav files the forum has been inundated with people reporting exactly this sort of drift problem. Unless there is a really important reason to deal with bwav, I recommend everyone request their mix files as 48khz aif.

Often the problem is operator error in bringing in a wav file into the wrong frame or timecode rate project. I am a bit baffled at how this mistake is so often made but once FCP thinks a file works at a particular timeocde rate, the way to fix the problem is to delete the original and reimport as an aif or if it must be wav, into the correct project.

I have heard opinion about the weakness of the Canon having a rolling shutter. Perhaps that is contributing.

Are you judging the image on an external monitor and if so what sort of I/O card do you use. A lot of times th issue is monitoring in FCP which is not full res.

On a practical note, why shoot progressive if you do a lot of slow mo? I would have thought that would be a case for interlaced as it has more motion information.

Have you tried the Boris text generators? They are a big improvement on the FCP standard text gens. There are also some third party text plugins and some powerful text tools in Motion.

Lyric make a better stills manipulation plug for the Ken Burns style moves. There are many others and a search of this forum will show some recommendations.

Firstly it is best to convert avi files into quicktime. I am assuming your sequence is PAL SD which is 720 x 576. Without telling me the sequence codec I won’t advise any specifics.

By shooting 720 x 480 at 25 fps, the frame rate is right but the pixel ratio is wrong. This will mean when you convert to 720 x 576 the image may be slightly distorted which can be corrected in the timeline by adjusting the distort tab and possibly a small zoom on the image.

I would convert the footage to match the sequence you are editing but because you didn’t respond to that part of the question, I can’t be specific.

What frame rate does it shoot and what quicktime codec did you convert the footage to for editing. Also what codec is it being intercut with?

Hopefully you have converted it to the same codec, frame rate and frame size as the main footage. If not, I recommend using Compressor to batch convert the footage before editing.

Also if there is audio make sure it is 48khz sample rate.

But seriously, Media Manager isn’t rock solid, round tripping to Color and Motion still has some way to go to be perfectly reliable and when will FCP warn that it doesn’t have a font before opening a project and changing every text box to a different font without even a post warning of what it has done.

My eyes are still dry but I am much happier with FCS3 and my new MacPro, Kona 3 and Color 1.5.

Firstly did you use Media Manager to create an offline version, changing the codec to HDV and then deleting all unused media with handles?

If not then you are going to be recapturing far too much and crossing camera stop starts. This will drive you nuts and is unnecessary.

Firstly, there is a tab setting in the log & capture window with a check box for making a new clip on camera stop starts. Turn that off, but seriously consider your workflow and the need to Media Manage before recapture.

You need to tell us what codec & pixel aspect you are using in FCP, details on the sequence setting and how you are creating the H264 files.

In Compressor, what are your settings?

Have you checked with Epson that they have a Snow leopard driver or software update for that printer?

Then perhaps you should bother to read my previous posts. I responded specifically to the need to to maintain interlaced because it was going to broadcast SD.
