Sorry. Don’t agree at all. You are advising people to reduce their resolution.

Better still, deinterlace using Compressor so that you maintain interlaced sequences for broadcast in FCP, but make the web version deinterlaced.
Also Compressor does a nicer job of deinterlacing than the FCP filter which throws away resolution. Search the forum as the settings for this have been covered many times.

Actually Dave, the 7D can be set for proper film and broadcast frame rates unlike the 5D which is stuck on 30.
And Frank, if you search the forum for Canon 5D you will see that the issues of correct codec, frame rate and audio sample rate have been discussed ad nauseum.

Because you are slowing the image by .1%, you need to do the same on the audio.

But SD is interlaced so why deinterlace all the HD material? I would convert the 720 to 1080 50i so that you also have a broadcast compatible HD project if you ever need it and it will downconvert nicely to SD. I don’t know if the Decklink downconvert is better with the Extreme, but I have just changed from Decklink ProHD to Kona3 and the downconverts are much better.
I don’t use compressor for downconverts as kona is reatime to digi beta.

There is no reason for this other than not setting frame rates correctly. If you use Quicktime conversion, set the frame rate manually not the default “auto”.
I have both FCP and Fairlight Xynergi’s and H264 files are preferred and frame accurate. Personally I don’t want a T/c window but you should always ask.

Nothing to fear with the scaling. FCP firstly reduces the vertical to take out the anamorphic and then zooms the pic back up to full frame.
It might seem strange but it is effectively just stretching the horizontal. The vertical resolution remains the same.

No I have not seen this behaviour. What codec are you sending and what codec is returning?

Why not buy a new system drive and do a clean install, keeping the old drive to go back to if problems occur? The forum has been littered with tragedy stories from people trying to install both OS & FCS3 over an older version.
