The Mac option is much more expensive and limits you to AMD GPUs. DNxHR has alpha options with DNxHR444. But if you are doing VFX in Fusion then it can render ProRes4444. Or are you just using Fusion in Resolve?

This helpful web site explains the comparison – https://lowepost.com/finishing/blog/the-difference-between-dnxhr-and-prores-codecs-r4/

Eric, I think it has become more common for Resolve to be the finish tool and not round trip back through FCPX, Pr or Avid. However you might try to export the video track only as an AAF and then try the ProTools export for audio only which is a preset on the delivery page. By doing the AAF’s separately you might find it works better.

“I wish Resolve wasn’t such a resources hog”

It has been totally rewritten since version 14 and version 16 is right up with FCPX as being the most efficient NLEs on the planet giving smooth and responsive performance. Please don’t judge it by version 10. Your wish was granted years ago

There is also a good case for live automatable processing of VST plugins in Fairlight, something not possible in a render round trip. I have my dialog bus with the Vocal de-noiser sitting just after compressor limiter & de-essers. That way i can automate levels of noise reduction in real time as Fairlight can automate real time adjustments of VST plugins. Very handy.

I’m curious how renaming clips via burn in that doesn’t relate to the actual clip name is useful? I’m sure Blackmagic might be able to add that feature if there is a good reason. I’m not sure what that reason might be.

[Hendrik Martz] “Resolve is not stable. I really like the editing (almost like the avid trim mode) and all, but you use plugins (Izotope and others), it really gets unstable. Its not ready yet in my opinion.”

I use Resolve Studio on PC and lots of VST plugins including iZotope. I do not have stability issues. A crash is rare. It’s important for people to realise that combinations of software, OS & hardware might cause totally different behaviours.

December 20, 2019 at 4:03 am in reply to: Dell 49″ Curved

Eric & Jeremy. It is running dual screen from my PC via a GTX1080. So two cables from the one computer. Plus I can switch the right hand screen to my laptop connected via USBc using the monitor menu to select a different input. I have it set to Picture in Picture mode on the Dell so it acts like two monitors side by side. The PC is set to two screen and is not spanned so two discreet outputs being used.

Refresh rate seems good. Not sure what the spec is but I notice no lag or flicker.

I’ve got the monitor installed and running on 7.5 metre DP & HDMI cables. It works perfectly with Resolve on PC running with an NVIDIA GPU.

The USBc allows me to also plug in my laptop and display instead of the second PC screen. It powers the laptop too. I haven’t worked out how to get any of the USB HUB ports to be recognized by the PC. Might have to read a manual or something crazy.

Resolution is set to 2560 x 1440 side by side and the join between the dual screens is seamless. You can drag a dialog box across the screen and you don’t see any join line. As a bigger screen than I had before, I was also able to move the screen away from me so I don’t need my reading glasses. That is a big help as I go between the computer screens and the 65″ LG OLED monitor. It also means they don’t block the big screen as much as the old monitors. (Dual Dell 24″)

I’m very happy with this screen. I can now retire the old DVI extenders that were a bit flakey.

Looks like a nice package, although some may balk at paying a further 50% on top of the price of X or half the cost of Resolve for just grading tools which don’t match the capability of Resolve. But if you want to stay inside X and get a decent finish on the grade, I’m sure it will have appeal.

I’ve got both Boris CC & Flicker Free (Digital Anarchy). Comparing the built in Resolve to those two and I find the Flicker Free does the best job. Slow to render but I think it is a better effect.

Lighting flicker is always a push for any deflicker with ghosting or weirdness. On one shot I found I used a power window mask to split the flicker processing as the foreground flicker was less than the background so a tracked mask helped to apply two different levels of processing
