Avid AAF Export Issues

There are a whole bunch of posts about AAF export on Blackmagic Design’s Resolve forum. I don’t think most of the issues were resolved (so to speak) until Resolve 16, the current version, and even so I’m not sure it works perfectly yet. But reports are that it’s better, and likely WAY better than what you’re experiencing in Resolve 14. Upgrading to 16 would require a database upgrade, and the computer spec requirements are a bit more rigorous (computers that run Resolve 14 smoothly may not be able to handle 16 very well).

I tried it on a different drive this time.
I got the write permission error this time around, and noticed the same amount of files was finished but not up to the creation of the AAF.
I added the drive to the Media list to see if that works.
I have never run into this issue in the past.

Update:

I found the culprit.
The drives were new and I didn’t add to the Media list.
The last crash resulted in a pop-up error regarding write permissions.
After I added the drive the render was 12 hours and not 4.5.
I guess it finally finished the whole film.

I got the AAF to finally export but the results in Avid is pure poop 😛
Files are missing from the timeline but they show up in the bins and the audio section is a complete mess.
It seems to be on a different framerate but nothing that makes sense.
The audio ends almost 10m later than the actual pic edit.
No clips are aligned.
This is not the same case in Resolve.

And that dreaded PMM_INSUFFICIENT_MEDIA error keeps me from going forward 😛

I’ve updated to R16.x (latest) and I am still having issues exporting AAFs and into Avid.
I at least figured out the video part in Avid but the audio is still a mystery.
I mentioned that audio was not lining up and looked way out of sync some even cut shorter.
Well, the fix (for now)is to make sure to render the amount channels needed.
However now the other issue is that my WAV fiiles are not retaining their TapeID with that setting.
I tried using filename>sourcename and it spits out a different name system and without the metadata no chance of relinking to original WAV.
Testing again and using suffix for filename.
Has anyone very succesfully exported an AAF from Resolve to Avid?
My last attempt will be from original NLE XML to ProTools then export to AAF or OMF.

Still struggling with this one.
This time, I exported an AAF from Premiere then went straight into Avid.
Just audio for this test since its the one giving me fits.
This time around I am testing a two min, 5 channel, 10 wav file timeline.
Render time clocks over 9 hours….WTF!!
It doesnt make any sense.
Ive tried same as source and I still get the same result.
Ill let this render over New Years and see what gives.

Eric, I think it has become more common for Resolve to be the finish tool and not round trip back through FCPX, Pr or Avid. However you might try to export the video track only as an AAF and then try the ProTools export for audio only which is a preset on the delivery page. By doing the AAF’s separately you might find it works better.

Thanks, Michael that was the plan.
I just didn’t have access to Pro Tools all week.
If that doesn’t work then last will be rendering new WAV during AAF export from Premiere.
I really didn’t want to do that.
