  • The clip must have the wrong field order. In clip attributes try and change it from the default upper to lower and see if that fixes the problem.

What I see is classic wrong field order interpretation.

EDIT: In a situation of mixed progressive and some interlaced, my preference is to deinterlace and create a progressive timeline. Then if the broadcaster requires i, I render that at the last minute.

And as Glen suggests, try exporting the XDCAM codec directly after changing the field order on the problem shots and see if that then looks OK

Sorry. I-Mac. I moved on from Apple products 11 years ago so I don’t keep pace with their I or i form factors.

It’s hard to know what consequences having hardware that is either below or just on minimum spec will do with any software. I’m not sure Pr would be any less likely to throw up random bugs. By all accounts Resolve is a much better performer on underpowered machines.

I wonder if it is the combination of an i5 laptop with minimum recommended RAM?

It would be worth testing if you directed the sound to go direct to your laptop speaker via your onboard sound and see if you can hear the scrubbing which is metering. However I would have expected the sound via the Decklink to have worked. If it works, or either way, it would be worth reporting to Blackmagic as it helps them to debug the enormous variety of hardware and OS combos.

Speeding up basically skips frames. You could try frame blend options including optical flow. You might need to experiment with the best options in optical flow to get the smoothing you need. Also you might need to render to get smooth playback. Drones usually shoot H264 or 265 so they are taxing for the CPU.

  • Perhaps we should be thinking this form factor is a better bet than a phone

The DJI Pocket 2 is a gimbal, HDR, slo mo 4k camera system with radio mic like the RodeGo. Smaller than a phone and really a better form factor than a phone. Plus you can plug a phone into it to use the phone as a screen. This makes so much more sense than a phone camera for me

  • Thanks Ron for the alert

  • I also think it is a bit of overkill to build Dolby Vision capability into a small display. The only advantage I see is using the phone as an ultra bright display for a gimbal camera. A few gimbals are including wireless feeds that turn the camera into a display and control unit for remote pan etc.

  • Providing Dolby Vision metadata and actually having the usable dynamic range in the sensor are two different things. The sensor no doubt will get tested in due course and we will find out. As for demand Tim, in the conventional broadcast, cinema festival doco world I live in, zero demand. I can handle it with with Resolve and monitoring on my LG OLED. No-one is asking for it. I did expect some interest in HDR, but only other tech types talk about it. No demand from producers or distributors.

  • Too often the audio side of a camera is overlooked. We get to see pretty sunset pictures of sultry people and horses. Great as that would work using so many different cameras. In my world of docos a camera needs to have audio options as well. A phone like this is far less useful than a BM pocket 4k which has excellent audio inputs with locking connectors, phantom power and swapable batteries . Pretty pictures with unusable wind swept tinny built in mic is not much use to me, except as a B camera, but then why would I have any camera that is really picture only in my line of work. If you have to go double system, it defeats the purpose of having such quality in a small package.

Where do I fit the ND filters. Can the camera actually cover the dynamic range of HDR or is that a gimmick? Storage of files and speed of getting files off the unit and onto something else? A week wandering the Simpson desert a year ago proved the value of having a 1TB SSD drive connected to my BM4k. Didn’t need to back up anything which is just as well as running hard drives and a laptop on a 6 day trek would have been a big deal. I see limitations in the areas that matter to me. Just like every phone camera. This one is getting really good with the image quality. Lets sort, batteries, audio , storage etc before I reach for this form factor.

Did you go to the original timeline settings and change it to custom settings and then tried to change the sample rate? I can’t check now as I’m rendering out a doco but you should be able to do that and Resolve should do a sample rate convert. Alternative would be to drop your DNx render file into a timeline that was set to 44.1 first and not changing settings when prompted by the mismatch.
