John,
This should work fine.
What are the symptoms, are you getting green video?
First thing you want to check is that your RT setting in Fianl Cut is set to Safe.
Also make sure you are applying the video filter to video and not a slug.
If you are still having issues after that please send a copy of your project along with your contact info and a description of the problem to support@borisfx.com Attn: Matt
Thanks

Hey Richard,
We have not received an e-mail from you in support. Just wanted to check in with you to help resolve your issue.
Thanks

Amanda,
I’m assuming you are using this stand alone?
Once you apply the transition from the library go to the edit menu and choose Project Settings.
Change the Project setting to the desired aspect ratio.
Another way to do this is to use th einsert function on the Library screen. If you do this you will have to delete your original tracks but it will maintain your project settings.
If this does not fix your issue please let us know by e-mailing support@borisfx.com
Thanks

Mark,
Any luck thus far? We’d very much like to see you get your project back up and running.

Richard,
Could you e-mail Boris support with your full system specs including OS version, RAM, Graphics card and driver, as well as a screen shot of the error message and steps to reproduce.
You can reach us at support@borisfx.com

Most of the information you would need can be found in the individual filter help files. They can be launched through the filter itself, are installed on your machine as a PDF, or can be found on borisfx.com.
If you have specific questions or technical issues with a filter don’t hesitate to e-mail support@borisfx.com
Thanks

It looks that way as this is a corruption type error.
What kind of drives are you using for your media? Have you trashed the media database files (msmmmob.mdb and msmfmid.pmr) located in the media folders? They will rebuild upon launch, this can possible find any corruption in your media folders. Are you using MXF or OMF?
I know you said you did not have a good experience with Avid support but you may want to try contacting them again on this issue, especially if you have a support contract with them.
If not you may want to try opening an account and posting on the Avid online community. There is a wealth of knowledge and expereienced Avid users there. The site is https://community.avid.com/forums
let me know if and when you find a solution. I’ll let you know if I can help you further.

Have you tried isolating areas of the timeline using in/out markers and the play in to out function?

Mark,
this is sort of a loaded question as only you know exactly what you need from your system.
As a general rule of thumb your processor speed and RAM will be important specs on the machine. You’ll also want drives with enough throughput to handle what ever resolution you need to work in.
Depending on if you’ll be using ahost application, working in HD or SD, will you be running more than one application at a time? These will factor in to what you need.
The system specs you listed above should allow you to run Red just fine, but you want to keep in consideration the specs for your host application as well.
If you have more specific questions geared toward your set-up I’m sure you can get a more complete answer.

No problem…as you stated in your first post, you are not the first person to be confused over this set-up
