Funny enough, I also received unexpectedly great (even by AJA standards) support yesterday.

The only thing more rare than finding a company with better support than AJA, is actually NEEDING support on your AJA product!

Yep, I tried changing to the default Window layout and that didn’t seem to make a difference. I also tried turning off playback in the Canvas window and just displaying on the external monitor.

I had my graphics card replaced under AppleCare a couple months ago and that hasn’t made a difference either.

No real solution here. We have a second MacPro (different model MacPro, otherwise same setup) that has the same issue.

When I want to be able to adjust the virtual faders I knock the real-time playback frame rate down to HALF and then it works correctly. Or, if I am working with 30p material, I just switch the timeline to 29.97fps which also works.

Do you use Fiber to connect to your RAID? Just curious.

Usually Mac OS X will clear the memory as needed, but if you want to do it your self, try a google search for “purge ram mac” .

IT’s something simple like typing purge into terminal, but I don’t remember off hand.

Otherwise you can use something like OnyX to do these sorts of maintenance

  • I wouldn’t recommend connecting two computers to the same drive because of potential permissions issues. Perhaps you could buy two multiple-drive-bay-chasis and connect one to each computer, allowing you to easily swap hard drives. Something like this: https://www.cwol.com/serial-ata/4-drive-sata-backplane.htm

I’ve never tried this, so I can’t vouch for it. As someone stated earlier, while it may seem like overkill, you really should consider setting up a small SAN. Eventually something always breaks and you will lose media…

September 16, 2010 at 5:36 pm in reply to: beach ball of death edit to tape or/and log and capt

Typically for me I’ll get the beach ball for 10 seconds or anytime I re-enable the L&C window or ETT, then it comes back normal. I’m guessing your doesn’t come back?

Call AJA and ask to speak to tech support. They will help you.

    THis might work:

Make a dupe of your 59.94 seq.
“Select All” of your clips in that timeline.
    “Cut”
Change the Seq. settings to 29.97.
    “Paste”

The “Wrong compression” error usually is from clicking the ETT buttons in the window instead of dragging a sequence into the ETT window. Which are you doing? Try the opposite and see if you get the same error (make sure your sequence is loaded in the “Viewer” window and not the “Canvas” when you use the button method)

Did you try any other sequences or just this? Maybe start a new project and see if you can edit to tape a single piece of media. If that works, copy and paste edit sequence into new project/sequence.
