Hi Everyone, Got an interesting problem and was hoping the brain trust here could point me in the right direction.

Yesterday I did an Edit to Tape from FCP6 to D-Beta through a KONA 2. So far, so good. Shut down the computer went home. Came in this morning. Did a minor change to the timeline in one audio track. Tried to Edit to Tape over the old spot and kept getting a “You are trying to output a different compression than the device you are editing to.” Or something close to that. Sorry I didn’t write down the exact phrase. Anyway, while editing in FCP, everything works great. Everything looks right in my monitor. BUT, as soon as I open Edit to Tape, the video in the window and monitor gets bigger and compressed almost like it was anamorphic. But wait, it gets better… It also does this in the external monitor if I open Audio/Video settings.

I immediately went to the KONA 2 card control and noticed that in the second or two before the video changes from normal to abby normal (Thank you Young Frankenstein fans) the Format graphic box was changing from 10 bit to 8 bit. This would be a good time to tell you that I am editing in NTSC 10 bit uncompressed.

Anyway, myself and the engineer here are flummoxed since it worked perfectly yesterday and is just wacked today. I have trashed the Final Cut and KONA preferences twice. Am getting a bald spot from scratching my head and a flat spot from beating it against the wall.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks, Jack

The “Wrong compression” error usually is from clicking the ETT buttons in the window instead of dragging a sequence into the ETT window. Which are you doing? Try the opposite and see if you get the same error (make sure your sequence is loaded in the “Viewer” window and not the “Canvas” when you use the button method)

Did you try any other sequences or just this? Maybe start a new project and see if you can edit to tape a single piece of media. If that works, copy and paste edit sequence into new project/sequence.
