Bill, as Rafael said, the Pleasantville Effect is what your looking for. I came across this on YouTube myself when I wanted to do the same thing. Use the color corrector 3-way and limit effect to sample the shirt color and create a mask for color garding.

Sweet. Is the downconversion new to the latest model? I thought the Deck LInk HD Extreme did not have this? Thats great news, I think this card is a perfect fit for my workflow.
But I still have a question regarding the downcoversion. Is that hardware downconversion only on output for playback and monitoring as well as use for the Print To Tape feature in FCP or can it be used in creating an uncompressed Quicktime file, as I have no decks and most, if not all of my work is for DVD and web. From what I understand the hardware downconversion gives better results than software downconversion with Compressor. Is this correct?
Oh, and one more. Can this card add in 3:2 pulldown for a 24p project going out for broadcast?

Thanks for your comments. HD-SDI monitoring will only be used for the broadcast monitor and the HDMI is only for the client monitor (37″ LCD).
So for HD-SD downconversions, I’d have to simply have to use Compressor or other software conversion, whereas a Kona 3 would do this via hardware? Does that sound correct? Or would the system prefs panel allow for proper downcoversion?

Thanks Noah, but I actually I have that one too, just forgot to list it. Those have all been so helpful but I just wanting something a little more in depth on the camera itself and its functions. Scene files, different formats, frame rates, etc. A sort of step-by-step training DVD specifically for that camera. Any thoughts?

Hey thanks for your help anyway. I’ll just keep messing around with it until I’m happy with it. Thanks again.

Sorry, let me re-word that. What would an example of a master clip outside selection be? And how would be used in a sequence. And what would an example of an Affiliate clip outside selection be?

Thanks Andrew for breaking that down so simple for me. The FCP user manual keeps it all techy. Its nice to hear it in its simplest form, like the Dummie books. I hate to keep draggin on but could you briefly tell me what the include master clips and include affiliate clips button does if checked. Or how or when it might be used?
If it helps, my projects usually have a few speed changes, which I usually bake in using Compressor’s Frame Controls, and various Motion projects. I also tend to keep my linked files for Motion.

Thanks David. Unfortunately I don’t have the ability to just go out and purchase drives, even though they are cheap, which is actually what I do with personal work. But with my company, drive space is always an issue. For our whole network, we only have about 6 TB. That consists of all network stuff, print work and other junk. With my separate 2.5 TB Ciprico RAID system I have about 1/3 the space of our network. So, using Media Manager on all jobs actually helps to save hundreds of gigs spanned over several projects.
Yes, its a pain the in @$%, but I’m just looking for a little guidance in using this tool. For example, my current project with all boxes checked will be about 90 Gbs. If I uncheck “Include master clips outside selection” and “Delete unused media from duplicated items,” that goes down to 5.2 Gbs. With just “Delete unused media from duplicated items” unchecked, the project is 50 Gbs.
I just don’t know what the best settings to use are?

Hey thanks. I was working with the WMV files ok but now I’m noticing a few gliches. I’ve also read a thread that talks about some of those gliches:
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1026560#1026560
Mine were, when I would Hide FCP to locate a file or check email or whatever, when I would try to go back to FCP, it wouldn’t come to the foreground. It locked up so-to-speak. Had others as well, but won’t bore you with them. I’ve had to force quit several times. Anywho, my work around tests were to use MPEG streamclip and export to 8-bit uncompressed and work with those files in FCP. I changed my sequence settings to Multimedia Large (4:3), 320×240, square pixels, fields None, and my compressor to Blackmagic 8-bit uncompressed.
After render, the playback visual was awful (grainy, pixelated, etc.), which I expected, but after exporting to Quicktime (which looked great) with my sequence settings and encoding to WMV, the final output looked just like the original. I think I’ve found a workflow that works, even after using Streamclip and loosing another generation. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated.
