Thanks Rafael. Last ? Would it make sense to use something like MPEG Streamclip to genericly decompress the video back to another format first like ProRes, DVCPro50 or even uncompressed? Would this make it easier to work with in FCP?
I’m also aware the using MPEG Streamclip will take me out another generation and might degrade the video 1 step further. But if its easier to work with, I can sacrifice the quality. The end result is again, only 320×240 WMV file.

Hey thanks everyone. All the responses have been helpful. I thought I was on the right track, just needed the correct settings. I would have liked to do this in Motion, but I’m still learning the ins and outs of it. So far, love Motion. But yes, simple editing can be a pain.
Thanks again to everyone. Cheers!

Hey thanks for the help. Sorry for not being clear. The last 2 posts have helped. I think I’ll stick with creating 2 different files.
The last note about Microsoft was cool. That should help with compatibility. Thanks again.

Oh, I didn’t know H.264 can be Flash. I thought it was just mp4 and mov. I always just create .mov H.264 files.
Sorry, if I haven’t been clear. Yes, the USB drives are just the carrier. And whatever files I create will have to have the appropriate player. My question is, for those PC users that don’t have Quicktime, what file type, other than a flash file or WMV, should I create?
Can one file type be compatible with both MAC and PC? I don’t want to just create a H.264 file and have it not work on a PC because they don’t have the correct player. I guess my best bet is to keep creating an H.264 for MAC users and a WMV file for PC users.

This is for USB flash drive distribution. I’ve used h.264 and WMV in the past for this and had no issues. I’d like to steer clear of Flash though. Any luck in using .m4v or .mp4? Didn’t these or H.264 replace the .mpg format? Is Compressor’s, Apple settings for .m4v and/or .mp4 formats compatible? Such as the Apple TV setting or iPod settings?

February 27, 2009 at 2:59 pm in reply to: Compressor: Why do deinterlace controls matter? Not to keep adding to this post but why can’t you just leave the frame controls off. Thus avoiding the Resizing Controls and the Deinterlace option? When creating the MPEG 2 just use the Video Format tab and for Field Dominance use Bottom first for Interlaced material and set your frame rate. How important is it to use the Frame Controls for resizing?
When I’ve tested this myself I got pretty decent results going from 1080i material to 480i SD DVDs.

Thanks Walter, I actually seen that tutorial. I just couldn’t figure out how to add the transitions back in other than having to back them with plenty of handles and re-edit them back in, which is what you recommended in your response. Thanks for the timely response. Its more work to do this but I guess its the only way. You gotta do what cha gotta do!
Appreciate it. thx

Thanks David. Your right, I should stick with performance vs. mirroring the 2 drives. With a G5 iMac, I’m already lacking the muscle that I have at the office. No need to slow that even more. I can back up manually and thats actually what I do everyday in the office. My Ciprico RAID 0 gets backed up every night to an external Firewire drive and upon job completion, it goes up on our network.
Thanks for your help. I’m going to stick with what I know.

Thanks but I’m sorry I forgot to mention that at home I’m only using an iMac G5. I’m basically using it for a demo reel and DVD creation. I use my work computer and my Ciprico RAID 0 for the heavy lifting. I just want to be able to edit together reels and such having the piece of mind knowing everything is being backed up as I work. Performance is not an issue but I want to make sure the mirrored Firewire drives will be able to handle the DVCPro50 or DVCProHD footage. I know 1 drive will but I’m worried about mirroring them.
Thanks
