You must decide the size.
Try to resize the pictures the less possible. Make your own custom sequence whatever the size you want Progressive Square pixels.

Thanks Rafael. Last ? Would it make sense to use something like MPEG Streamclip to genericly decompress the video back to another format first like ProRes, DVCPro50 or even uncompressed? Would this make it easier to work with in FCP?

I’m also aware the using MPEG Streamclip will take me out another generation and might degrade the video 1 step further. But if its easier to work with, I can sacrifice the quality. The end result is again, only 320×240 WMV file.

Hi Matt,
I thought that bringing WMV to FC would be a no-no but it seems that with Flip4Mac installed FC can manage it quite well.
With a footage already so compressed tray to avoid further exports, renders and recompressions.
So if you are able to import WMV to FC and export directly to WMV, the best.All at once.
If for any reason you need to export a QT movie to be converted to WMV, export to an Uncompress codec.
Use MPGStreamclip only if you are unable to edit the WMV. If you need to transcode the clips do it to 8b Unc.

Hey thanks. I was working with the WMV files ok but now I’m noticing a few gliches. I’ve also read a thread that talks about some of those gliches:

Mine were, when I would Hide FCP to locate a file or check email or whatever, when I would try to go back to FCP, it wouldn’t come to the foreground. It locked up so-to-speak. Had others as well, but won’t bore you with them. I’ve had to force quit several times. Anywho, my work around tests were to use MPEG streamclip and export to 8-bit uncompressed and work with those files in FCP. I changed my sequence settings to Multimedia Large (4:3), 320×240, square pixels, fields None, and my compressor to Blackmagic 8-bit uncompressed.

After render, the playback visual was awful (grainy,pixelated, etc.), which I expected, but after exporting to Quicktime (which looked great) with my sequence settings and encoding to WMV, the final output looked just like the original. I think I’ve found a workflow that works, even after using Streamclip and loosing another generation. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated.
