Is this possible?
Posted by Bill Stewgats on April 22, 2009 at 3:05 pmI need to change the color of someone’s shirt in a movie. The camera is stationary and the individual shows minimal movement. Elapsed time: 4 minutes.
Can I do this in final cut? Will it look realistic.
Thanks ahead of time. I am new at this.

April 22, 2009 at 3:44 pmBill, as Rafael said, the Pleasantville Effect is what your looking for. I came across this on YouTube myself when I wanted to do the same thing. Use the color corrector 3-way and limit effect to sample the shirt color and create a mask for color garding.

April 22, 2009 at 3:50 pmYou should also be able to do this in the Color application. But, like changing colors in Photoshop your results are far more realistic when the basic tonality remains the same. Simply put changing a medium blue to a medium green can look quite real while changing something bright like yellow to something deep and saturated will almost always look awful.
If you’re not familiar with Color I HIGHLY recommend Walter Biscardi’s Stop Staring and Start Color Grading DVD sold here on the COW. It’s a fantastic learning tool and a real bargain at $49.95.

April 22, 2009 at 4:07 pmAs Nick Griffins suggest with the Secondaries in Color you can get a much better result.
The masks are incredible.
