Don’t use multiprocessing. It doesn’t work correctly in AE at all.

Don’t matte the trees. Just lay the sky right on top as a multiply layer. When you do it, you’ll see what I mean.
You can also lay the sky on top (as stated above)…Then make a luma matte out of your original plate by crushing your levels so the sky is mainly white and everything else is black. then use that as a luma matte on your sky layer.

The best thing to do in this case is to get a decent track first, get your sky moving as it should with the shot. Then multiply the layer ON TOP of your footage. You will need some rough mattes around buildings etc. But it will look great if (if done correctly) through all the trees, power lines etc.

Try the technique on a still image in photoshop first and you’ll get what I mean.

They are 2 different techniques.
One looks like the “invert” effect added to footage.
The other is a transfer mode on a layer probably. Duplicate your footage on top of itself and on the top layer start going through the different transfer modes like difference, color etc.
Also you can change the hue and colors of your top layer and mess with the transfer modes as well.

I would precomp the bird and stabilize the clip to the bird. Keeping it in the center on every frame.
Then animate the precomp flying across as you please. Otherwise you will be fighting it the whole time.

I would advise 2 things.
1.Use a site like lynda.com where the tutorials are in a logical order. Explaining the interface and moving on through the basics from there. Its a better way to go about learing the program than random tutorials from all over the web.
2. Accept that everything frustrating you is user error.
After that, everything else is crean cheese.

If its still open you can undo back as far as possible.
You can avoid this in the future by making your saves iterative. Then you can always go back.
In the future. .. never have only one copy of an AE project.
