I suspected that the plug-in affecting the application of all processors to the project might be Aav6cc, because it is an older third party plug-in and I was right. When I turned it off, all 8 processors were working. This is a shame, because I love Aav6cc. It allows the hue, saturation and lightness to be separately manipulated for 6 different colors. I mostly use it to pump up the saturation of green on green screen footage and it makes keying a lot easier.
Thanks again.

Thanks much. This is very interesting. I had no idea that multi-threading in rendering was dependent on plug-ins or formats. I did the test you suggested and was able to see all 8 processors chugging away and it was fast. It also worked as well for m2t HDV files without any effects. When I opened the project discussed above, I realized that I had HDV footage in a project file with HD project settings, and that no doubt caused the slow rendering and the problems. When I adjusted the project settings, with all my effects on, and rendered to mpg2, I only saw four of the processors working, so that must be from one of my applied filters.
Very helpful discussion. Thanks.

I shoot a fair amount of green screen. I went from a Canon XL2 miniDV to a Sony HVR-V1U HDV camera and I’ve been amazed how much easier it is to get a good key. In production, the lighting is easier, more forgiving of unevenness and wrinkles. In editing, the edge is sharper, less jaggy. My final endproduct is usually Flash (or .wmv) as well, but starting out at higher resolution has really made things easier for me.

That is a great idea. This was for an idea I had for a scene in a film I made this weekend with some people for Madison’s 48 film contest. We just finished and I didn’t have time to try the technique. Never did a contest like this before. Really exhausting but really fun. We drew horror for our genre. I did all the editing for it in Vegas in 15 hours. all considered it turned out pretty good. I’ll post a link to the film when it is available on the 48 film site.
As always, thanks for the advice!

Great ideas. Thanks much for your thoughtful answer. This is what I decided to go with:
https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/mwaitrovich/web/mcburney/interviewtest.htmlIt uses 3 different backgrounds for the 7 people with custom colored name keys. 2 are on the left and 5 on the right. I think this provides enough variation to make it look right.
thanks,

July 21, 2008 at 3:26 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas 8.0, how to “unlock” speaker’s voice from the film clipsIn Vegas Pro, there is a button at the top called “Ignore Event Grouping.” If you turn this on, you should be able to move the video and audio parts of the clips separately. (Not sure if the button is present in your version of Vegas).

Not sure if this will help, but…I’m on Windows XP, not Vista. I did have the same crashing problem with a .veg project. I happened to have some different formats in the project that I think caused the problem. I had HDV and NTSC widescreen avi files in the project and when I deleted the HDV files, the problem went away. I think there was some type of frame rate conflict because I was getting a weird artifact on the first frame of every HDV clip. Try either getting rid of some clips or playing around with the project properties. Might help.
Good luck,

If I was having this issue, I would try to capture it with no compression. “uncompressed” is an option in my version of the program. I might also experiment with the other codecs listed.
I just did this with a flash movie and I used the techsmith codec. You might try re-downloading the codec from the techsmith website. You might not have the most current version.
Good luck.

If you just can’t get Flash to export the movie you want, you might try using Camtasia or another screen movie application to make a screen movie that you can put on the timeline in Vegas. I’ve done this when I wanted to “simulate” some of the interactive elements of the flash movie in my .avi file to use in Vegas.

All the NTSC mpg2 templates in Vegas 8 have maximum bitrates of 9,500,000.
My test render with the lowered bitrate looks much better.
This has been a big help to me.
Thanks much.
