Doesn’t it seem odd that the template default is too high? I will certainly try your suggestion.
I was also wondering if interlacing has anything to do with it. I did turn on “reduce interlace flicker” on the clips, but it didn’t seem to do much. I was wondering if it would be better to do a progressive render, if I’m sure the DVD player supports progressive scan?

thanks for your response.
I am using the DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream template under mpeg2 in the render. The bitrate on the template is “variable bit rate” with 9,500,00 as the maximum.I thought I had the project properties set to match the sources material, or most of it anyway, which is HDV 1080i. I also followed your directions above, but my files are m2t, not avi, but I assume that also works. I don’t think that resulted in changing the settings from what I had before.
So, given those answers, any ideas?

Not exactly sure if this would work, but if you are looking for a free, low tech solution, you could write on thin white paper with a dark marker, videotape the backside, not the front, and then reverse it in Vegas in pan/crop or track motion. If you lit the backside properly so you couldn’t see through the paper, I think it might work.

My two cents…
I would say it would really help if you know your way around the operating systems. I found all this quite difficult.
I am on my second windows partition on my Mac Book Pro laptop. The first one had to be deleted because I inadvertently messed up the windows system files. So, I had to recreate the partition and reinstall Windows (XP with SP3), and all my Sony and Adobe applications, which took several tries. First problem I had was no sound. After much research, this turned out to be caused by some problem with SP3 for Windows XP. The fix for it worked. Now I am having a problem with Sound Forge not “rendering” files, although the same audio files will render from Vegas.
I am an experienced Vegas user, and I really need both Mac and PC, and I only want to have one computer. I’m willing to put up with the issues of running Windows on the Mac, but I can’t pretend there aren’t issues. I bought VMWare Fusion so I could switch from Mac to Windows without rebooting, but found some Windows apps I want to use only work on reboot due to some DirectX issues.

Just in case this works for you:
I play mp4 files from iTunes on my 40 inch LCD TV all the time. I have a DVI to HDMI cable that goes from my laptop to the TV. I play the video full screen and it looks great on the TV.My TV also has a VGA input so I could go VGA to VGA or DVI to VGA to go from the computer to the TV as well.
No need to burn a DVD.

This is great news, especially the free download for Vegas 8 purchasers. Now, I guess I need to shop for an external blue ray recorder. Any recommendations? How long do you think it will be until an internal laptop blue ray burner is available?
