If you render separate audio and video files, ac3 for audio and DVDA video stream for video, then DVDA does not recompress at all but only assembles your DVD. That is the advantage of rendering separate files for use in DVDA.

Amazing, but the only way I could get this to work:
Make my animated gifs in photoshop on the mac.
import them into Powerpoint on a PC.
Transfer the finished .ppt file back to the Mac.
That’s the only way I could get the animated gifs to play correctly in powerpoint on the mac (which is the required delivery machine).

Thanks, Mike. This must be a PowerPoint issue because when I checked, the gif file I created in Photoshop did play correctly in a browser. It played once and stopped on the last frame. I’m in the latest version of Ppt on a mac and it doesn’t play correctly. Microsoft seems to not like macs much. I have a PC too, so I’ll try rebuilding the presentation there and see if it work.

Not sure about the second part of your question – I don’t quite understand it. But dissolving between tracks is easy. Right click on the track header and choose Insert/Remove Envelope> Composite Level. This will give you a line on your track which you can make handles on by doubleclicking the line. Drag the handles up and down to gradually change the “video level” and get your dissolve.

The horizontal motion is created with a simple linear blur Vegas filter, pushed way up.

I can’t answer all your questions, but I have a few suggestions. If you lock the camera down in the car, you don’t have to chromakey – you can make a mask instead (easier because it’s not dependent on color).
Have someone drive you through the route and shoot out the window without any of your car showing and at the various angles you will need.
Then show the route footage through mask.
This is easy to visualize but hard to explain.

If all else fails, consider using Photoshop CS3. The latest version of Photoshop actually permits opening up a video clip in Photoshop and applying any of Photoshop’s filters/adjustments to the entire clip in one fell swoop. The Shadows/Highlights adjustment is perfect for what you are asking about.

If you can’t print back to tape on your camera, you should be able to render an HD wmv file and play it back on your TV through a laptop. I’ve done this on my Sony Bravia that has VGA input (or DVI to HDMI).
