  • H.264 rendering in Vegas 8 for Flash import

I very much hope someone can clear up my confusion over this issue. The new version of Flash has video playback of both .flv and H.264 .mov files. I’ve frequently imported an .avi file into flash and encoded to .flv and played that back in a webpage. However, I can’t seem to figure out how to encode the file with H.264 so that it will import into flash with out being coverted to .flv. I thought the H.364 .mov file was supposed to play directly in Flash without the need to convert to .flv.

I’ve tried the MainConcept AVC/AAC (.mp4) render and also tried rendering as .mov with MPEG-4 video as the Video Format. But either Flash can’t see the file or it converts to .flv.

In a different thread, someone suggested changing the .mp4 extention to .mov, but that produced an unplayable file.

I have updated my Flash CS3 to the most recent version.

Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?

    thanks much,

you were almost there – just change the .mp4 extension to .flv and if you have the latest plug-in (v115) it’ll play just fine.

Excellent – It’s amazing how simple it is, yet finding the ‘magic key’ seems so hard!
