Viewing Vegas Edited Video as HD on HDTV
Posted by Bob Yantorno on December 3, 2007 at 1:46 amHi –
I would like to be able to view my edited HD (Sony HDR-HC3) video on my HDTV. I do not have a HD DVD player or HD DVD recorder. I know that I can view the unedited directly from the tape HD video on my HDTV via the HD connection which I have done. What I want to do is view the finished/edited HD video on my HDTV.
Any suggestions?
Thanks –
Bob

December 3, 2007 at 2:20 amIf you can’t print back to tape on your camera, you should be able to render an HD wmv file and play it back on your TV through a laptop. I’ve done this on my Sony Bravia that has VGA input (or DVI to HDMI).

December 3, 2007 at 11:13 amHi Terry –
It is a tape based camcorder. Not sure what PTT is. I have 2 Vegas tutorials and have not found out how to do it in either one of them. I can burn a DVD but I want HD and I thought the only way to do that is to put my edited video back on the camcorder tape and play in thru the HD connector cable.
Thanks –

I should be able to print it to tape (I have Vegas 8 Platinum) but can’t find out how unless I render it which I don’t want to do. I don’t have a laptop.

Sorry but, using Vegas, you have no choice in this.
You have to render the file first if you want to do a PTT. -

Which format do I use for rendering.
I did use MPG2 and then sent it to the camcorder but nothing shows when I play it thru the HDTV.

December 3, 2007 at 2:56 pmBob, I know how to do a PTT for an SD (720 x 480) project but, as I haven’t worked with HDV yet, my only siggestion is to see what the Vegas help file says about this procedure.
I had a quick look in the help file (for the full version of Vegas) and it has a separate section for doing an HDV print-to-tape. Have a look through it as it seemed to be a good guide. -

December 3, 2007 at 8:05 pmYou should Print To Tape using an MPEG-2 HDV template. If you do not see anything on your HD TV when you play it from your camcorder, something went wrong in the Print to Tape phase.

Thanks – I just tried it and I don’t see anything on the tape. Boy am I feeling not only frustrated but dumb. I am not really technologically illiterate but sure feel that way. Vegas is so powerful but has so many options and choices that it can be overwhelming.

December 4, 2007 at 6:12 amIf you can try to explain what you are doing, then that would be a help. Also, if you tell us what Vegas is saying to you while you are doing this, then that would also be good.
