Ooh, that’s good, Andy. Can’t wait to try it.

Thanks Andy, that would be sweet, but many of my clips do have other filters applied.

November 11, 2011 at 4:12 am in reply to: Why won’t my HDV files play in Snow Leopard? Thanks to everyone that got back to me on this. Because I have two complete startup drives on my Mac, one running Leopard and one running Snow Leopard I (OK, not ‘I,’ my Mac guy) swapped out some files in the Library folder per the instructions at the Digital Rebellion link earlier in this thread and all’s good.
I see that link added an update yesterday listing the files to swap out. One day late.

Ah man, this is all depressing. I really don’t relish reverting to an earlier QT given your reply, Phil. And there seem to be no updates from VITEC. I’m waiting to hear back from the shooter to find out if he did use firestore.

OK, I’ve done some more investigating and, first off, I’d like to apologize to the client. His clips aren’t the only ones that won’t open in Snow Leopard. There are lots that won’t and lots that will (I figured out which were which by looking in Snow Leopard at Finder level in list view. The ones that will open have a thumbnail image as opposed to a QT icon). Oddly, the ones that will open and the ones that won’t seem to jump back and forth within a single shoot. I might call the cameraman tomorrow, but this stuff was shot a few years ago.
Anyway, I labeled the won’t-opens red and went back to Leopard. Again, here everything will open in QT Pro and a thorough review of lots of them in the Inspector reveals these two distinctions.
- The ones that won’t open in Snow Leopard, as shown in my first post, are 16-Bit (Big Endian), Stereo with a Normal Size of 1920 x 1080.
- The ones that will open are 16-bit (Little Endian) Left and Right with a Normal Size of 1888 x 1062. Everything else seems to be the same.
Does this help? Can you help?

Well, yeah, Dave, that did seem a little drastic to me, but I didn’t wanna say nothin’ as Mr. Weiss has been a bit short with me in the past and I didn’t want to offend him. He does seem to know what he’s talking about.

Thanks Andy, that works perfectly. I have no idea what I’ve been doing in the past to get this to work, but this will carry me forward beautifully.

[Cody Walters] “You mean the Voice Over Tool not Log and Transfer right?”
No, actually I prefer —and until the last few days have been able to use— the Log and Transfer tool. I find if I’m tracking narration for scenes that have not yet been cut, the VO tool workarounds are awkward. I would much more happily record audio clips into a bin and then cut them into a sequence as needed. I just can’t figure out what has gone awry.

Yeah Dan, I figured out after posting that it was an exactly 20 frame offset and I forced it that way into what I wanted.
I can’t remember (and don’t have fcp launched right now) if I tried to export/import the clip. I had tried to export the clip from a sequence and it, of course, wanted to render first.
Another bug. Wonder if any of them get fixed in fxpx or if we just get a new interface and more bugs.
