[Paul Neumann] “IMHO it’s really worth it to just learn the default layout. It’s really well thought out.”

Fair enough, Paul, but I’m not sure I want to give up twenty years of muscle memory when I’m still using Avid as well.

[Paul Neumann] “Maybe you haven’t actually saved and/or loaded the changes you thought you did. Check that…”

But ‘period’ works when I hit it with the Program window selected. Consistently and even after a computer restart.

[Paul Neumann] “and also try trashing your preferences to get all that to reload from scratch.”

OK, I’ve tried that on my home MacPro and MacBookPro and that wasn’t it. And, since I don’t yet sufficiently understand Premiere, I’m not prepared to trash the preferences on my client’s system.

But in setting myself up again and testing after trashing preferences, I did find the source of the issue and it feels like a bug to me. I started creating my keyboard shortcuts by choosing the Avid Media Composer 5 preset from the Keyboard Layout Preset. I Saved As and modified the copy. It appears that if I build my settings from the default settings instead, the problem does not appear.

Too bad. I thought I was going to save myself a lot of time starting from the default Avid settings.

Yes, M puts a Marker where requested.

June 3, 2015 at 12:45 am in reply to: premiere pro cc clip markers visible in timeline

That was helpful. This may belong on a different thread, but I’ve mapped the period as my Marker key (because that’s where I mapped it for Avid). When I hit it while in the Program window I get a Marker on my timeline, but if I highlight a clip in the timeline and hit period, I get no Marker, instead the clip advances a frame. I’ve experienced this at work today and it is happening on my home computer as well. Both Macs, home running OS X.9.5 and I think the same at work.

If I leave Marker in the default M position all is fine.

  • Nope, not a double post, Glenn.

There’s a lot of valuable info in that, but I’m on an out-of-house gig today and won’t be able to try any of this until tonight at the earliest. I have forwarded your post to my colorist.

    Thanks so much,

    Martin

  • [Eric Johnson] “If your colorist is using v9.1.1, ask him to export using the “generate new AAF” option….”

I’m pretty sure he’s using v8.something. I’ll check when he’s available again. I’m new to Resolve and my colorist is new to Avid so we’re working out the kinks. I’m currently waiting for an upload from him of an attempt based on a cut where I removed a FluidMotion clip and where, per your earlier suggestion, I committed multi-cam edits.

  • That’s interesting, Glenn, I’ve never dragged a .mdb into a bin; didn’t know you could. But I already dragged the Resolve-created mxf files into my existing Avid Mediafiles>MXF>1 folder and rebuilt the database. They’re not in a ‘2’ folder. Won’t dragging the .mdb into a bin create duplicates of the rest of that drive’s masterclips?

Also, the Resolve-created media does show up in the Media Tool. I dragged it all into its own bin and all indicators (playability, resolution, frame rate, etc.) are that it’s fine and compatible. But it has completely unrelated names —different from the offline .new clips in the AAF bin— and I can’t seem to get these clips to ‘relink’ to the sequence.

  • That is a hugely useful tip, Eric, but I don’t think it will address anything other than that one error message. I will try to pass an AAF to the colorist with that figured in though.

April 20, 2012 at 10:12 pm in reply to: Bringing in Mono Tracks in Log and Transfer

[Bret Williams] “You can either break them into mono tracks in the timeline (option + L)…”

Yeah, I’d rather have them all that way before they got into the timeline.

[Bret Williams] “…or do it in the bin. Although that option may have disappeared years ago. You used to be able to right click on the audio type column and choose stereo or 2A. You could do it to all your clips in one fell swoop(click).”

I tried that in the ‘Audio’ column. There are ‘No Shortcuts.’ True in so much of life.

Wish I knew why it’s missing from Log and Transfer.

I ended up spending a couple of hours Sunday using the Gang to Open method. A real pain, but I was able to review the other effects applied to the show.

Thanks for all the other suggestions though.
