Don’t do an export from Motion, just set the Field Order to “None” and disable Field Rendering. Then import the .motn project file into FCP and you won’t get fields when the graphic is rendered.

I haven’t done a commercial for a couple of years but yes definitely 10 sec hold at the end (and I think it has to be a freeze rather than a “living hold”). I also have a vague recollection of even having to put a 40 sec clock on the front.
Anyway the BACC is the organisation that all UK TV ads have to be approved by, so I guess they would be the people to ask:
https://www.bacc.org.ukThere are strict rules on disclaimer text size buried inside this bizarre PDF:

September 5, 2006 at 9:13 am in reply to: Field dominance question – DV = lower/even field – Pal STD = upper/odd field…?Yes it is a field dominance problem because you’ve got cuts happening on field 2 rather than field 1. Confusingly this is not connected with FCP’s (incorrectly labelled) Field Dominance setting though which is really Field Order – the order of the fields within the same frame.
This is the only fix I know of:

August 31, 2006 at 7:32 pm in reply to: Can you keep key frame info when pasting Filters?Unfortunately Paste Attributes is just like copy/pasting filters in the Filters tab and won’t place the keyframes in the right position. I don’t know whether this is by design or a bug.
What will work however is simply dragging the animated filter from the Filters tab to the clip(s) on the timeline. The keyframes get correctly repositioned relative to the new destination clip.

Oh yes…I’ve experienced the frustratingly slow recues too but FWIW I’ve recently been doing some captures over Firewire and FCP was noticably faster at picking up after a TC break. So perhaps it’s a RS422-only problem.
Not that that’s much consolation Peter, sorry! Out of interest, does PictureReady make new clips on TC breaks?

August 31, 2006 at 7:03 pm in reply to: Exporting Quicktime Movies with Alpha channel IS possible! One thing is that if you render the sequence then the alpha channel will not export correctly. You must break the link to the render files by disabling then enabling the clips.

The main reason FCP5.1 exists is to run natively on your shiny new Intel Mac for the best performance. Don’t bother looking for benchmarks, just get the crossgrade. Also bear in mind you won’t be able to install any future updates until you make the move to v5.1
FWIW There are lots of enhancements to the latest version even for those of us still on PowerPC. Get the details here:

You need to either select the nested clip and hit the Return key or double click on the nested clip whilst holding down the Option key.

What I hadn’t tried (for some strange reason) was making separate masks in Photoshop and using Stencil Luma blend mode. FWIW that did the trick.
