The kerning slider is broken but the keyboard shortcut (Control-left/right arrow) works fine.

The meters can show levels above 0dB because internally FCP has mixed sequence audio at 32 bit floating point for as long as I can remember. Just like with floating point precision on images it allows you to push levels above the “maximum” and bring them down later.
For example in FCP7 you could take an audio clip, push the level up to +12db, nest the audio clip and bring the level down by 12dB and it would sound identical to the original. You can do the same by applying 2 gain effects and with compound clips in FCPX.
So there’s no change in the actual levels the meters are showing, just the fact that you can now see those levels over 0dB.

April 21, 2010 at 11:12 am in reply to: Can someone explain the 960×720 DVCPRO HD thing to me?No, they’re different. In DVCPROHD the sensor is 16:9 and the lens isn’t anamorphic.
So the captured image is electronically horizontally scaled to 4:3 aspect purely for recording because of the frame size constraints of the DVCPROHD format at the time it was invented.

unless it’s going to make media and project exchange with FCS more transparent.
I presume that’s a major reason why they’re doing it. The high-end finishing market is not something Apple is going to get into so it makes a lot of sense. I don’t see they need to drop the price.

Go to User Preferences > General tab and check that the “Real-time Audio Mixing” preference is set to more than “8”. You can safely bump it to 24 or 32 tracks and should be quite happy.

I used to have to do this a LOT and found the quickest way was to draw a selection in Photoshop with a mouse, then invert it and delete the outside area. Always came out rough enough 🙂

re 202/203: I think at some point we’ll see Apple move all media management operations out of FCP and into a single-seat easier-to-set-up version of Final Cut Server that gets bundled with the package. I believe FCServer already has the ability to track what source clips are used in which projects.
