Hello. I just upgraded from 9.0c to 9.0d. I had been utilizing smart rendering with AVCHD in 9.0c. I also note that it now renders each frame in 9.0d. I also made sure that the preferences/options were set properly. Perhaps they made a change do with the fact that the audio and video would fall out of sync in rendering longer AVCHD clips to the same format. Anyway, I agree that it would be nice if this would work properly.

I have used Sound Forge Studio and have found that it works quite well for this type of effect. It is also $55 vs $375 for Sound Forge Pro. You can download the trial version and see if this is what you are looking for. Perhaps others with more experience may have some thoughts as well.

Hello Drew. I am by no means an expert and am still quite a rookie with regards to video editing. I have also run into audio/video sync issues as have several others. Vegas is known to struggle with AVCHD video rendering to the same format. It would be helpful to know more about your current project. What format/properties are you currently working with?

There have been several threads on this forum over the past several months that you may find useful:

When shooting, I carry a white board so that the camera can see a true white when performing its adjustment.”

    Excellent tip. Thanks for that!

I have been playing around with the color corrector a bit more and things are definately looking better.

Thanks for the reply Theo. I have tried this already and have found that this really doesn’t seem to help all that much. The problem is that in the affected clips, things really look pretty much yellowish and there are no true whites visable. When I click on the yellowish ice, it doesn’t seem to make that much of a change. Of course if I manually change the color wheel, I can make things look much better. I also notice that with the color corrector preset that is designed to reduce yellow color, this adjusts all three of the color wheels (high, mid, and low). Do you or anyone else have any additional tips? I’ll use the preset if this is the best that I can expect. However, I would ultimately like to dial in the white balance to the correct setting. Are there any decent tutorials out there regarding the color corrector fx? I see that there are a number of options (left and right pipets, as well as a number of additional adjustments under the color wheels).

Thanks Danny, and yes this helps. You have confirmed my suspicion. I will plan on editing and rendering smaller segments to the same format as the original in order to preserve quality. I will then put together the final project and then down-convert to SD rendering the audio and video seperately for import into DVD architect.

February 26, 2010 at 4:44 am in reply to: Smooth slow-motion in Vegas…possible?

I am really liking this forum alot. I can see that this is going to be an addictive hobby. I just played around with the slow-motion and stretch in a clip as well. I noticed that there was no difference in the clip when viewed in the preview window as I hold down the alt key and go thru frame by frame. Each frame was duplicated approximately four times at maximal stretch. I did, however, see the intended effect when I set the video preview window to best quality. I now see each individual frame including the interpolated ones. Try this and hopefully you will be able to see what you are looking for.

‘Since you will only have 30 minutes of video you might even bump the bit-rate to CBR 8,500,000 but I wouldn’t go over that for compatibility sake.’

I have an additional question regarding this. In setting the CBR, is this recommendation dependent on rendering audio plus video (NTSC DVD Widescreen) or for a video stream only as would be used in DVD architect?

John, thank you for your response. I have of course been doing quite a bit of experimenting. I have learned alot thanks to you and others on this forum and for that I am very thankful.

‘You don’t have to worry about deinterlace settings because both your AVCHD source and NTSC DV Widescreen target are interlaced formats.’

I have noticed that when I set the deinterlace option in the properties window to none that the video becomes very suboptimal. There will be a significant amount of blurring. For instance, the metal posts or dividers between the sheets of glass around the hockey rink will look very wavy as the camera moves. They actually will look more like the twin serpent of a medical staff symbol. Why does the quality get so much worse when I turn off deinterlacing?

‘The default used to be All but was changed in Vegas Pro 9.’

Do you know why this was changed? I would have thought that more people would have prefered the video thumbnails setting left the previous way.
