I am putting together a DVD of highlights from my daughter’s hockey season. There are a large amount of clips from a number of games. The original format is 1920×1080 (16M). One thought I had was to go thru the various events and games throughout the season and edit and render these to smaller elements at NTSC DVD widescreen format with both audio and video as this will be the final designation. I was then planning on using this smaller number of clips in order to generate the final project and then render out the audio and video seperately for DVD architect.

In using this technique, I would end up rendering the clips twice. Is this technique ok? Would it be preferable to generate the entire project on the same timeline initially? I had thought that it would be easier to use the smaller clips rather then an incredibly large number of clips.

Another thought would be to edit and render out the initial set clips to a smaller set of clips at the same HD format in order to preserve quality and then use these in the final project to down-convert to SD. What is the proper technique for this task?

Always start with the original clip and render as what you wish. Just try to avoid rendering something you’ve already rendered before. Anytime you render, the quality takes a hit. I render my HD videos to WMVHD as the quality is good and the file is relativly small. Hope this helps, Danny

Thanks Danny, and yes this helps. You have confirmed my suspicion. I will plan on editing and rendering smaller segments to the same format as the original in order to preserve quality. I will then put together the final project and then down-convert to SD rendering the audio and video seperately for import into DVD architect.

If your going to use DVD Arcitect, do all your editing with the original video and render once as type,Main concept mpeg-2, and template,DVD Arcitect ntsc video stream into an empty folder, then render again as Dolby Digital.ac3 Pro into the same folder with the same name as the mpeg but with the ext. .ac3. Then burn with DVD Architect. Danny

Edit your clips and call the projects hokey1, hokey2…….
Put the PROJECT hokey1, hokey2 and so on, to the timeline for final rendering til a DVDA template.
