thanks for the quick answer.
Yes, I see the 720×404 in both QT player and VLC player, as well as when I command-I to see the info about the file.
I have tried the 720p file in compressor directly and also tried putting that file into FCP into an anamorphic SD timeline… same result.

I wonder if MM will deal with EVERYTHING including motion templates, images from other projects, and Im sure it wouldnt do fonts (something that snagged me yesterday).

The bizarre thing is that the render file Case_Pago-FIN-00000003 is actually there! I keep on finding it manually, but it never seems to be satisfied.

Theres got to be a much better way to transport a project. Even worse that this one is the way FCStudio puts custom motion templates deep in your system folders (which cannot even be searched without a special non-default parameter). There should be a way to point a project to a folder and say “stick ALL I need in there” – from fonts to motion, renders, still images audio clips etc etc.

High on my wish list because I plan to do more work from home.

I have gone to render manager and delted all renders but still get that message, and it is definitely relating to a render file. Is there any way in FCP to see where any file is being used. I did not edit this section and have no idea where or why it is still trying to reference a render file when the render files list in render manager is blank, ie there are no renders!?

Thats probably the problem…
The one project was done by one editor and I did the other, so I am a bit scared to delete all his render files just in case they cant be made again. Oh god. FCP just crashed again as I was typing this.
grrrr…

Thank you kindly for the responses.

I am not really in the position to be paying even the minimum of a production budget for the script up front. I dont want to pay anything unless I make something myself. I suppose this depends on what the author says and wants.

My contact who spoke to the author a few days ago said he was very excited… but he may have been excited with dollar signs in his eyes, or perhaps at the idea of someone liking his book and wanting to breathe life into it again.

Its a good idea to have some tiny token of payment up front, just to formalise the relationship. Matthew, WRT the percentages, you mention 1-3% of the production budget – but wouldn’t the author be more comfortable getting some proportion of what I would get as scriptwriter? At least that way he knows my financial interest is also his.

I dont think there is very much difference between the “professionality” of PP vs FCP, they are both capable editors. PP3 was just not stable enough for me, and I was tired of waiting, so I moved… but I dont think you could say PP is not professional since a lot of pros use it for HD broadcast work.

Ji Joe,

It could be your computer system, but I switched to FCP for the exact same reason, PP crashing several times a day is just not OK… the only time I ever crash FCP is when I try to load a still image over 4000 pixels long. Pity FCP is on the mac though, I prefer FCP to premier, but prefer XP to OSX and OSX is definitly not more stable than XP.
