when you go to quicktime player>registration, the registration box says Apple Pro Apps User at the bottom.

im pretty sure the mpeg2 license comes with our Pro Apps? No?

Thanks for the reply,
I just followed that link, and it explains how to install Optional Instals from the Snow Leopard disk… which I did, and it makes no difference.

Strangely, after installing this Quicktime off the Snow Leopard disk, it says I should go to some Apple site to update my software, and links to a page with a 10.5.8 Leopard download!!!??? absolutely weird and a bit shambolic IMO.

Im busy with a huge upload, once that is done I will remove QT and reinstall, see if that fixes anything.

ja, im not sure of all the rules and reasons, but it seems that if you have two clips with a transition in between like this:

_______x_________

and if you then mark an i and o before and after the transition like this

____i___x___o______

then you can overwrite the transition.

if you are parked on the outgoing clip and press X to select the clip, it selects the whole clip and the whole transition and will replace to the end of the transition, BUT if you mark the in or out point at the midpoint of a transition, it isnt smart enough to know you want to keep the transition.

but hey, it is nice to know that you can add transitions to multiple edit points, (erm, like discreet edit could do over 10 years ago!)

When I go to About this Mac > Software, I see Quicktime player v10 and Quicktime player v7.6.3, but no mentiton of “Pro” – when I do a software update, all is up to date.

I am running snow leopard.

SQUARED5 makers of mpegstreamclip say this on their site requirements for mpeg2:

For MPEG-2 playback and conversion, you need the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component. You can buy it from Apple (https://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2). If you have either Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro, then the component is already installed and you don’t have to buy it; but you may need to download the latest version from Apple. If you bought an older version of the component, you can update it to the latest version (https://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/update). Note that the MPEG-2 component is neither required nor useful for MPEG-1 or MPEG-4 files. But it is required for VOB files and transport streams, because they are MPEG-2 files.

But that https://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/update page does not offer to update!
I wonder if I should uninstall QT then reinstall it?

hi there david,

afaik fcp isnt “64 bit ready” anyway, im not sure about motion and the others.

my understanding is that a 32 bit app will get some speed gains, but nowhere nearly as much as an app written as a 64 bit app.

anyone know?

Alan, i agree, the FCP interface is awful, the KFE is industry worst, and integration could be a lot better. Too much iphone on the brian methinks.

Motion templates in fcp still cannot use a timeline as a source clip, cannot use another motion clip as a source clip, so you have to render bits out and then import separate files to apply, and if the client makes one change…

Motion Keyframe Editor, its still next to impossible to select the Y position bezier handle when X is visible because X gets in the way all the time. Surely if one is selected, you should be able to grab that parameter’s bezier handle first, by default? (but this keyframe editor is still 1000 times better than FCP’s)

Hi guys,

I too was really shocked by the lack of development (it has been two long years!), and my guess is Paul is right, it has to do with resources spent on iPhone… a great pity.

I had jumped from CS2>FCS2 and was very pleased at the time, but the idea of, for example, enduring another two years of FCP’s absolutely horrendous keyframe editor leaves me feeling rather sad.

Ok thanks guys,
I will send the file to myself and check on my trusty PC when I get home.
It is for playback off some Hardware player, so I reck it will be fine, even if it is 404 pixels high.
I will report back as to what the PC says the dimensions really are… and I will try it in FCP, or even mpeg streamclip to see the size too.
