I see that the COW is using the name “Sticky Posts”.
But, I have to say that the term “Virtual COW-pie” is soooo much better. And from what I have been reading on here… some have stepped directly into the cow-pies…

I understand your frustration about this workflow….
It doesn’t work very well until everyone can get their hands on the new 2.0 software. It will allow you to export your proxy files for editing offline.
As for dealing with the proxies…. The timecodes are the same as for the original files BUT your file names will be different (the 2.0 software allows you to rename your proxy files to any name before outputting, meaning they can have the same name as your master clips). Until you can get the new software, you’ll have to offline using proxies, and batch capture to the full quality clips later.
OR…..
You could manually rename all of your proxy clips to the same as the full quality BEFORE you edit, then you can dump the proxies and replace with the full quality clips.
AND….
To be perfectly honest, a MacBook Pro can handle XDCAM HD in full res. Just add firewire 800 drives and edit.

Sound to me that your client is asking too much…
People really don’t care about small jerky movements on Internet video as much as the video hanging up or stopping monetarily.
Somehow, I think you need to convince you client that a little jerky movement is Ok with this particular project. It will not destroy the moment or story line.
The product that you have shown us looks great but I am using a Mac Pro Quad 3.0. I just looked at it on my G4 Dual 1.0 and it is jerky at first but smoothes out as it plays. You are not going to get a perfect setting that will work for ALL computers.
You’ll have to talk with your client (of which, I hope they are paying good money for this) about what is more important, quality or playback smoothness. In order to play on older computers, you’ll have to loose quality to gain performance. These are questions you need to ask.

I have to agree with Jeremy. I don’t see this stutter that you are talking about. I do see the progressive look that Jeremy mentioned. That does have a stuttering effect if that is what you are talking about.
I have to ask… Is this your first project that was done in 720p? Anytime you work in a progressive format, there will be some sort of stuttering that you are worried about. This is part of the progressive thing.
Just for the heck of it… Go to the movie theater and watch a movie and pay close attention to any sort of movement. You’ll see the same stuttering motion that is concerning you.
30p or 24p. Progressive frames are just a full complete frame of video. Interlaced video takes advantage of movement and draws fields in between the movement making it smoother. This is your difference.

Look at your compression settings…
Most of the time when you compress to something that is web based, the setting will want to compress at a lower frame rate, say 15 or 10 fps. If this is the case, just set it back up to 30 or 29.97 for DF.

You’ll have to hook up the camera using Analog Component and connect the RCA audio out to your capture card and use the firewire as machine control. The 330 camera doesn’t have SDI out on the camera. Sorry…

Just used it a couple of hours ago and it works fine here.
I’d trash the prefs and restart FCP. This usually fixes these kinds of issues.

Before going that far…
Trash your preferences, first.
If that still doesn’t work, I would say that you have a corrupted clip file. If this is the case, I’d select small chunks and render those. When it comes to the one that locks up your computer, one of those clips is the corrupted one. At this point, you’ll have to delete the media and recapture it. That will solve your problem of the crashing.
I have seen this a time or two and it has always been linked to a corrupted clip file.

There’s the magic answer!
I can vouch for Walter on everything. We have a Mac Pro Quad 3.0 and a G5 Dual 2.7. And the Mac Pro runs circles around the G5 when you are taking rendering speeds.
One word of caution… Memory is the key to a Mac Pro. Getting the right memory and installing it correctly if the key to top performance. Oh yeah… And nothing less than an ATI X1900XT video card, please.
