I’d like to add something here….

Maybe someone else has seen this…

On both of our systems that we use, one being a G5 Dual 2.7 and a Mac Pro Quad 3.0, both systems were getting very similar errors such as yours, Mark. I would run TechTool on bith to look for drive corruption. On BOTH systems, TechTool would hang and the systems would freeze while checking the system hard drive.

Both systems have cloned drives on them that are current working OSes with full updates applied.

I found that when I replaced the main system drives with new drives and copied the cloned drive to the new drive, everything was running just fine again. I had my IT guy look at those suspicious drives and he found that had serious corrupted sectors on those drives. I don’t know how this happened on both but they were damaged and this was causing my crashes and hangs.

SO…..

If I were you and your system is still not working well. Replace your main system with a new drive and install fresh (since you don’t have a backup drive). And this should get you back and running again.

Without knowing the specifics of your system and software, it sounds like you have corrupted media.

Take your media offline and startup FCP. It should startup just fine but tell you that your media is offline. If so, then its just finding which piece of media is corrupted. I have had this to happen a few times with DV media in the past.

Another thing… Did you repair your permissions and zap your PRAM?

Amen, Brother!

I think there are alot of folks here that have never experienced a linear editing system. I have to admit that I didn’t get to experience 2 inch.

But I did work for a PBS station in the middle eighties that had top load JVC 3/4″ decks, a Sony mixer that one had one effect bank, a Microgen CG, and an RM 440 editor. A-B roll editing meant that you had to push play on both machines and flip the bar on the switcher to dissolve between the two and you had to have someone running the Shure field mixer for audio edits.

So, I do know a thing or two about the good ole days.

Did you install the AJA Macintosh Quicktime Codec 4.0 or did you just try to copy the drivers from one machine to the other?

This will not work. You need to install the AJA Macintosh Quicktime Codec 4.0 for this to work properly.

I’ve been getting this same error message while rendering since the last Pro Apps update, also.

BUT… here’s the kicker.

I’m still using Tiger (10.4.10) with FCP 6.01, Quicktime 7.2, AJA Kona 3 4.0 drivers, etc.

I just click Ok on the error message and continue rendering.

I you use the Easy Setups then the Kona card will view any of your work on your broadcast monitor. As for handling effects, that would be FCP. AJA Kona cards do not do any effects, just realtime viewing on your broadcast monitor.

The Kona series cards handle XDCAM HD very well. I can’t answer for the LHe personally but I’m sure that it has the same acceleration as the Kona 3.

You can ingest your footage using the Sony Transfer software 1.1 or you can Log and Capture into ANY codec. The workflow is up to you.

BUT, if you are going to be doing XDCAM HD only and want to do it natively, make sure that you set your renders to ProRes422 in the preferences.

Hmmm…..

Sounds like you need to try a few things here. First, I’d delete your prefs. Second, if you haven’t reformatted your media drive in a while, things like this can start happening because of drive corruption with some of the drive blocks or sectors. Third, try running something like TechTool on your media drive. Just don’t defrag your media drive if its a stripped partition.

Personally, I’d start with deleting your prefs.
